SONY RUBY 1080p Projector, FINALLY!

by Health Nut - 1/10/06 8:56 PM In reply to: What will be the most talked-about products of 2006? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Thankgoodness Sony has revolutionized price/performance with the RUBY 1080p projector! I am so glad I kept my CRT projector (until this summer) and did not buy a 720p DLP. If it wasn't for Sony Releasing the 1080p Ruby, Texas Instruments would eternally be giving consumers the DLP shaft! The RUBY blows away the 720 DLP projectors and the 1080p projectors will be lucky to match it! Best yet it forces Texas Instruments to keep pricing low! Best yet is that the RUBY is available NOW and the 1080p DLP will be inferior in many regards. For a street price of $7500, who and the heck doesn't want a BLU-RAY 1080p player/Playstation 3 projecting on a 120 inch screen??? PLASMA screens are a horrible value!!! SONY RUBY projecting on a 120 inch screen!!! BETTER THAN THE CINEMA MOVIES once Blu Ray movies come out!!!

Dual core ring any bells?

by TTupa - 1/10/06 9:43 PM In reply to: What will be the most talked-about products of 2006? by Marc Bennett Moderator

It has to be computers. This mainstream push by the two manufacturers (AMD/Intel) will rival the late nineties in terms of frequency of new upgrades. Once AMD releases their new form of Hyper Transport (coherent? I believe) they will struggle with Intel to put out some BLAZING machines.

Couple this new advancement in hardware architecture with Windows Vista, dropping late this year, and this will once again be a year for computers.

You hit the nail on the head

I find it hard to believe that flat panel TV will get more attention than dual core processors. It's going to usher in a new era of computing. Given the fact Apple introduced two of their first Intel based Macs (both dual core), it could also rehash a platform battle between two more advanced OSes: OS X and Vista. The so-called 'iPod halo effect' coupled with the rave reviews OS X has been getting (not to mention the fact Apple is almost 5 years into this OS), Apple could be biting a chunk out of the Windows community. Microsoft better release a flawless product in Windows Vista, or they could be looking at losing a whole 2 or 3% of their market share as Apple doubles theirs ;-)

Surface Emission Displays from Toshiba and Canon

by JustinR - 1/10/06 10:09 PM In reply to: What will be the most talked-about products of 2006? by Marc Bennett Moderator

The best flat panel display I've seen by far. Contrast ratios of 10K to 1 now and expected to reach 100K to 1 in production. Toshiba and Canon should be commended by SMPTE for continuing the field emission display research after others abandoned it. Unless OLEDs pull off miracle, LCD and plasma displays are as good as dead.

by Edgar Carol - 1/10/06 10:21 PM In reply to: What will be the most talked-about products of 2006? by Marc Bennett Moderator

PDAs are gonna be tv, game boys, cell phones, computers, the whole works!! Oh, yeah! And locaters and direction finders, too! Probably even able to read the trouble computer on your car! Check on your child through the internet! Text messaging! Absolutly everything but shave you and give you a haircut and massage!

Pda's

by bbguntx - 1/11/06 3:57 AM In reply to: PDAs by Edgar Carol

I think Pda's that include more features like GPS, Cell Phone and camera all it one, will be the next talk of the town. With one of these units and insurance person can go out and mark the location of the wreck, take pics and fill out all the documents on the wreck. Then transmit them to the office via Wi-Fi or email. There are lots og industry that can use this type of technology. for example state investigators, home inspectors, surveyors and the list goes on. Where I work we carry out with us a phone, laptop, camera and a gps unit, I will love in when a single unit can do it all...

Good day!

HDTV a neccessity after the GOV'T. stops broadcasting of ana

by Dennis Flacy - 1/11/06 2:48 AM In reply to: What will be the most talked-about products of 2006? by Marc Bennett Moderator

While the GOV'T. has its reasons to delete analog TV broadcasting , the transition to HDTV sets will be expensive and out of reach for a large part of the TV viewing public. Even the cost of the set-top conversion box ( at $50-$100 estimate) will hurt some people .
A transition period would help if it were long enough.

by oc_f1fan - 1/12/06 12:47 PM In reply to: Playstation 3 by Whitecougar

You had said that the PS3 won't be available at all this year, which is very wrong because it will come out in the Spring of this year. So there's just a few months left!

It must be gaming

by adamharte - 1/11/06 12:31 PM In reply to: Gaming by manahatta

I think that gaming will be a huge topic this year, for a few reasons.

1) Playstation 3 - Im sure that with the release set at early 2007, sony will use the end of 2006 to create mad hype and release a few suprises

2) XBox 360 - Dont know about you but Im waiting for a chance to test this out for myself (but have to wait for some half decent game).

3) Halo 3 - How many people can say that they arnt looking foward to the new release of this epic series.

4) Final Fantasy XII - Nuff said.

The release date for the PS3 is actually in the Spring of this year - not in the beginning of next year!
