I just purchased my first- and last- JVC product. I'm sure many of their products are fine but, heaven forbid, if something goes wrong with the product, they WILL not back it up.
I bought an HDTV large screen TV in October of 2005- It worked fine for a week and then conked out. Its now January, 2006 and I still don't have a TV. Every time I call JVC I get a runaround-after a half hour on hold.
I have been told over and over thats its just a 'minor part that is needed'. The first time it took them three weeks to get the part. It still didn't work. Today, Jan 5, 2006 I was told that its another part that is the problem but they won't have it for a few weeks.
Their 'factory authorized service centers ' are another horror. One was incredibly rude after I complained when
Upon complaining about this, the 'Corporate Executive' I was speaking to ( I, long ago, have bypassed customer service and called their corporate offices) told me there is nothing they can do about it and hung up on me.
I can't tell you how annoying and upsetting it is to deal with a company like this. If I ran my business as they do, I'd last a week. I urge you to avoid any JVC products. I'm sure most are fine BUT if you have a problem I'm pretty sure you will get the same horrible treatment as I have gotten.
Update- I just informed JVC 'team leader' Marco'-he refused to give me his last name- that I was going to post this letter on several websites. His answer was 'go for it'. This is representative of the kind of treatment one can expect from JVC

Sony, JVC, Viewsonic you choose. I would recommend finding a custom installer and dealing with them and only them. find products made by smaller companies that don't outsource customer service and handle problems personally. Never NEVER buy online or big box ie best buy.
I found a hi-end retailer here in San Jose ca, that treats me like a king even thou Iam on a beer budjet, I find that there equipment is about the same as big box stores but the customer service is awsome . Example I bought a complete set of Atlantic Technology speakers and after a week I heard the voice rubbing on one of the main speakers . I called these folks ande 4 days later they asked me to bring in the difective speaker, and replaced the driver in 10 minutes, Also I bought a new DENON 3805 amp and they brought the unit to my home hooked it up and calibrated it for free I truly believe you actually save money and problems buying hi-end
ok, so you own jvc. you are the ceo of an international company with millions of customers. one customer insists on calling you up and refuses to speak to customer service. you dont know how to fix tv's...thats why you are the ceo, and thats why you have a special tech department that takes care of it. this one customer is yelling and screaming at you. why would spend your time listening to that one customer who is being so rude to you...when there are 2,999,999 other customers out there who are not rude to you. making threats about "putting your story on websites" really doesnt mean anything for retailers and manufactorers like jvc or sony. it just gives them the reason to laugh at you. unfortunately, it is how what is.
if it only worked a week and crapped out, the best thing to do was to contact the place you got if from (unless you wanted to save a few bucks and bought it off the internet). most places will have a 30day warrenty against something like that and would have gotten you a replacement quite quickly.
1-I called customer service MANY times and got nowhere.
2- I don't believe for a second that big companies don't care about customer service.
However, if you, like many people will do, like to assume the company is correct, buy a JVC product and if something goes wrong, remember me
I've deallt with MANY big companies and was never treated like this
I have never had problems with their customer service. I am surprised as their attitude, as they were always propmt, responsive and resolved my issues.
I love my product and JVC is the way to go!
I'm sorry you are having problems with JVC. Over the years I had use a lot of JVC products.
I'm not sure when it failed after only 1 week you didn't return it the store for am exchange or a refund? John
So, I'm surprized. I bought a JVC receiver and 3-head
cassette deck (V-66) in the early '80's. Both products
are performing just fine according to my nephew, who
now has possesion of both items. (he takes care of the
heads in recorder on a regular basis.....Hey, even I'm
surprized the receiver is still pumping out music (RX-
1000) not sure about model numbers.
I guess I will not consider a JVC television.
Hi- Thanks for your comments- I'm sure many JVC-most-are fine. The problem is what happens if you get a 'lemon' as I obviously did.
As I wrote, The TV worked for about 10 days and its now exactly 3 months since I've had it with no end in sight. Not only will they not replace the TV but they keep coming back to me with 'its just a minor part' that is needed. The new 'minor part' is 'back ordered ' and, they hope, be here in three more weeks.
I should have returned it to the dealer but I was assured originally by the repair people that it would just be a few days and was a minor problem.
To sum up, if you buy a JVC product it very well might be great but if something goes wrong,...- You have been warned
