Ripoff

by marinetbryant - 1/4/06 7:53 AM In reply to: PANASONIC PLASMA RIPOFF-OPEN THE BOX! by chukarhiker

Just bought a plasma from Crutchfield. Maybe they are a little higher but the price included delivery to any room, unpack and place on stand. Plus they have a great tech support. Bargains aren't always bargains.

I just bought my box of sand at Circuit City, and it has a terrific picture. What's all the complaining about? :)

BestBuy used trick.

by consumer_advocate - 1/6/06 3:17 AM In reply to: PANASONIC PLASMA RIPOFF-OPEN THE BOX! by chukarhiker

I looked at a TV tuner card at a local BestBuy store and decided to wait until I could research it online. Ordered it online for local pickup but was told the store was out so they would ship for free. I agreed and later went back to the store anyway to buy a vacuum. I saw that the store still had the six tuner cards on the shelf. The vac was sold out but they said they would ship that for free. The TV tuner arrived and appeared used but it works so no complaint, then the vac arrived and the box appeared new so off to my mother in law for Xmas. Only later did I find out that the vac appeared used with dirt and fibers in it. She had already thrown the box away but I let BestBuy know I was disappointed with them for dumping their returns as new! Their reply was that I could return it with all the original packing. I admit mom in law wasn't too bright throwing away the box. Oh well, it works.

Yellow bag of %^$#

by mmolnar - 1/6/06 4:19 AM In reply to: BestBuy used trick. by consumer_advocate

Best Buy is the most horrible place on the planet to buy anything. I worked there for about a year and it made me sick every time i walked through the door. They would not know customer service if it bit them in the ass. They are probably so paranoid about people trying to rip them off because they have been ripping people off the whole time they are in business. Many times my boss would tell me to repackage products and put them back on the shelf. Beware of the yellow box scum!!!

No company is all bad or all good

by bessnfloyd - 1/6/06 8:20 PM In reply to: Yellow bag of %^$# by mmolnar

I'm doing quite a bit of business with Best Buy in recent years; like anything else, one has to research and be a bit aggressive. Over all, I'm happier with them than others I've done business with. Part of the secret is finding a salesperson or repair person who is really qualified and wants to do a good job.

Their support for a product under guarantee seems to have slipped, however; I have a CD burner that has to be opened with a paper clip from time to time, and a CD player that won't close without a nudge, and they refuse to do anything unless I reload Windows!!! As if that could have anything to do with it. So far I'm putting up with the minor inconvenience, but if either one goes out entirely, they're going to hear from me big-time.

Maybe... however

The one you worked for may have been a bit corrupt, but the one that my close friend goes to has a great, helpful staff, that actually knows what they're talking about. I've never had any problems, personally, so you shouldn't badmouth the chain just because your end has a crack.

New damaged items?

by goodtimes1 - 1/6/06 4:33 AM In reply to: BestBuy used trick. by consumer_advocate

I purchased a portable Panasonic phone from Best Buy. I did not notice that it looked any different from outside. The box was sealed in clear plastic. Got home and opened it up. It looked like a dog had gotten a hold of it and chewed on the antennae. It was also a different model and dirty.

Since Best Buy was closed, I went back at 9AM the next morning. They refused to replace it and acted as if I switched phones. I had been a loyal customer for years. Now I do not but anything from them. I contacted the Better Business Bureau and Panasonic hoping someone would assist. They stated the headquarters refused to do anything. This was not a sale item or a demo. It was being sold as a new item.

Not sure that we should have to open all our purchases in front of the vendor. I have had very little issues with internet and love the feedback that is able to help one decide on reliable sources.

I have seen how goods are handled in getting to stores

by wieser100 - 1/6/06 5:23 AM In reply to: New damaged items? by goodtimes1

I have driven trucks for a number or years and have seen how some of compans can handle even electronics.theese loads going out of huge warehouses look like they were loaded by stacking stuff on the loading dock and pushing the product on with a bulldozer.like 2 26 inch tvs that were in a load at the very back of the trailer i pulled away from the dock.pull the trailr foward to close the doors and i found that the bang i heard was the tvs falling about 8 or 9 feet.in a lot of spots. the trailers are preloaded and the doors sealed so the driver has no idea how things are loaded or what.and I cant really blame the workers, the companys they work for do not exactly treat them the best, quotas etc.

Unscrupulous customers or employees????

by jad543 - 1/6/06 8:29 AM In reply to: New damaged items? by goodtimes1

I had something similar happen to me, not with electronics, though, but just the same. I bought a football card set at Wal-Mart back in '93, when Drew Bledsoe was a rookie. I opened the shrink-wrapped box in the parking lot and voila! the rookie cards and one special card that came in the set were gone and replaced with other valueless cards. I went in the store and showed them. I suggested that they open another set to show them the cards that were missing. To our surprise, the next set was also missing the cards. We opened two more boxes and they were the same. It could have been that somebody bought the boxes, took them home, took out the cards, rewrapped the boxes, and returned them to Wal-Mart for a full refund. Or it could have been a dishonest employee...I never thought anymore of this, but now I realize how easy it is for unscrupulous persons to do this. Open the box at the store, maybe even before you pay for it!

Tricks to learn by !

by Ernie Dunn - 1/6/06 6:27 AM In reply to: PANASONIC PLASMA RIPOFF-OPEN THE BOX! by chukarhiker

A friend has a shipping shop. A man came in with two boxes sealed with a computer in each ?! He insured them for $500 each and wanted to be sure they went out that afternoon. After he left the clerk found that he had run out of postage on his machine. It was closing time so he put the two cartons in his car with his postage meter. He decided to fill the meter in the morning and let the post office ship the cartons. The next morning after arriving at the post office reached in the car to get one of the boxes and the carton had no weight to it. He took it into the inspector's office and they found the carton was empty?? The inspector opened the second carton and it was empty also. They determined there had been blocks of dry-ice in each carton. It was an insurance scam that did not work that time.
