Registry Mechanic

by Sloop - 4/6/06 2:13 PM In reply to: Registry Mechanic by PC Tools by num.ber

Good luck on buying Registry Mechanic and getting it to work. I have spent several hours during 2 days trying to activate Reg. Mech.to no avail. It has taken several hours today to get my credit card credited after applying for the credit. The free version is worthless. CCleaner is free and works well. I would try Reg. Mech. if PC Tools could figure out how to make activation of their product intuitive. I purchased it from Zone labs and the ZL people were quick to offer credit to my account and implied that I was not the first to have this problem.

GREAT REGISTRY CLEANER

by sherbuy - 1/6/06 6:03 AM In reply to: Looking for a good Windows Registry Cleaner by skyemacm

I USE REGISTRY MECHANIC( FREEWARE VERSION ), IT DOES THE JOB PERFECTLY, ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS. EASY TO DOWNLOAD AND USE. IT IS SO GOOD THAT I AM GOING TO BUY THE FULL VERSION, WHICH LOCATES AND DELETES ALL REGISTRY PROBLEMS, THE FREEWARE DETECTS ALL THE PROBLEMS, BUT DELETES ONLY THE VERY BAD ONES, AND QUARANTINES THE REST. IT ALLWAYS BACKS UP BEFORE DELETING IN CASE YOU HAVE TO GO BACK FOR ANY REASON. I WOULD DEFINATELY RECOMMEND REGISTRY MECHANIC. PS, ALL MY FRIENDS USE IT AS WELL. FREEWARE AND FULL VERSION. HAPPY COMPUTING EVERYONE !!!!!

Seeing as how Registry Mechanic deleted all your lower case fonts, I don't believe I will try it. I think lower case fonts are necessary quite often. :-)

Registry Cleaners-Easy Cleaner by Toni Helenius

by iganderson - 1/6/06 6:10 AM In reply to: Looking for a good Windows Registry Cleaner by skyemacm

I have used this product for over 5 years without any problems. Easy Cleaner is freeware and is located at:

http://www.toniarts.com/product_details.php?prod_id=1

The program also will clear out unnecessary files, duplicate files, cookies, history, etc. Allows for a backup of any removed registry entries or files so that in case of a mistake, corrections can easily be made.

User Friendly Registery Cleaner

by rablerowser - 1/6/06 6:12 AM In reply to: Looking for a good Windows Registry Cleaner by skyemacm

I have used Easy Cleaner and Reg Seeker. Both are freeware. I found Reg Seeker to be the easiest to use. It will backup any deletions if you select it too. You can download it at HTTP://hoverdesk.net/freeware.

EasyCleaner: Safe, Easy, and Free

by atch1951 - 1/6/06 6:42 AM In reply to: Looking for a good Windows Registry Cleaner by skyemacm

Dear skyemacm,

Good question, one I get a lot in my business. Everyone wonders how to cleanup the Registry, but we've all been warned about the damage we can do. And the mutiple 'free' tools available all turn out to be free scans, but you have to pay for the repair part of the service. Not Cool!

I searched the Web, and found EasyCleaner. It's from Finland, and it costs nothing, ever. You install it, you take just a couple minutes figuring out how to use it, and you turn it loose on your computer. It has a module that cleans up your hard drive, one that cleans up your Add/Remove Programs list, one that handles your Startups more thoroughly than MSCONFIG, and a safe and easy Registry cleaner. The Registry cleaner looks for unnecessary and/or out-of-date entries, lists them all for you, and gives you the choice of removing them individually or all at once. Being kinda lazy, I always just click on Delete All.

I've been using EasyCleaner for over two years now, installed it on dozens of my clients' computers, and haven't had a single problem with any of the installations. ...or an unexpected problems caused by the use of a free program. Sometimes, you don't get what you pay for --- you get so much more.

Here's a link to EasyCleaner on the Web.
http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm
Choose the .exe version for easier install, or choose the .zip version if you're using a slower connection; just create a folder anywhere on your computer, unzip the zipfile into it, and drag a shortcut of the executable to your Start Menu or desktop.

Good luck.
DaLe

RegScrubXP

by snaprider - 1/6/06 7:02 AM In reply to: Looking for a good Windows Registry Cleaner by skyemacm

Not sure if you're still looking or not, but thought I'd give a little info. that is proven and works, and is free.
First off is that Registry cleaning shouldn't really be needed, unless you install/uninstall frequently. Secondly, most registry issues with XP Pro are related to other misuses. Practice safe computing, and smart computing (including internet) and you'll find most everything will run smooth).
My recomendation for Registry cleaning is RegScrubXP. It's free and you can get it online. Be sure to follow the directions. It's very simple in appearance and looks completely generic, but I found it does an excellent job, and I can trust it not to delete stuff it shouldn't. Like anyone will tell you though; ALWAYS BACKUP REGISTRY BEFORE EDITING. It doesn't matter how great a program is, it never fails you will be the one whom it doesn't work for if you don't back it up first.

As for some other things I do to keep system in shape:

a) I run Microsoft's AntiSpyware Utility, SpyBot, SpyBlaster, and LavaSoft's Ad-Aware (all are free to general public), and I make sure I check for updates at least once a week. Think of it as filling your tank in your car with gas... after about a week, you have to do it... it's a must.

b) I run a notable Antivirus Program and keep it up-to-date on it's deffinitions. (I reccommend either McAfee or Norton... the others haven't impressed me yet... and yes these cost... but they are worth it)

c) You have to keep your Windows Updates Active. I can't tell you how many machines I fix on a very regular basis, and one of the number one reasons the person has a problem, is because they are out of date with their updates. Those who tell you not to update, and wait... are morons. Unless you're running a server and are in a sensitive network sharing environment, update your machine when there is an update. Not updating is like cutting yourself seriously, then saying, I'll wait and got to the doctor if/when I bleed to death.

d) Finally, do yourself a HUGE favor. Turn off System Restore. I know so many who have done great, with everything, only to find the same problems keep reappearing. Remember that System Restore is there to detect changes. If when you boot-up there is a problem, you fix it, then reboot and System Restore sees it's different, it'll "help" you by putting it back. Microsoft still needs to work on this one.

Be sure to run your antivirus and antispyware scans everyday/night. I run mine most everyday between 3AM and 6AM. Microsofts AntiSpyware, and Spybot allow you to put them on a schedule. I also run my McAfee FULL SYSTEM IN-DEPTH SCAN every night.

about twice a month, or every two weeks or so, when you have a moment... run a Defrag, and a RegScrubXP. You'll be amazed at how great it all runs afterward.

Free Registry Cleaner

by jimger - 1/6/06 7:28 AM In reply to: Looking for a good Windows Registry Cleaner by skyemacm

Hi,
I recommend "Easy Cleaner" by ToniArts.
It is fool proof and I have never had a problem using it. They also have other products you may want to consider as well. Oh, did I mention it was freeware?
Enjoy! http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm

registry cleaner

by wendyb - 1/6/06 7:32 AM In reply to: Looking for a good Windows Registry Cleaner by skyemacm

I was a new computer user 3 years ago and got Registry Healer as my cleaner. I find it to be a great program and easy to use. It does backups of all your changes so if anything goes wrong you can do a restore and fix it. I run it probably 2 times a week and have done so for 3 years and only twice did it make a mistake which affected my Modem. I did a simple restore from my backups and all was good to go.
I purchased the full version and have no regrets.
