dvd crashes all mp's
by btzmacin - 12/29/05 1:23 PMEvery media player I have on my laptop crashes after playing only a second of the dvd. the disc works on my desktop perfectly. I cannot do a system restore because this function is disabled by my company's IT dept. I checked with them and they said that they didn't touch the dvd functions and that it should work fine, but i wanted to check here before leaving it with them because they send the laptops out to dell and that takes over a month to fix and they almost always just replace the laptop, thus erasing all my documents and music and such. Please someone help me out!

intel p4m @ 1.70 ghz
512 mb Ram
WinXP home SP2

Just need to play a DVD? Try GEEXBOX (google.com) You boot that minidisc and then it ejects and you put in your DVD.
As to your documents, my prediction is they'll vanish soon. You seen to be lacking a backup system.

Is it the Blue Screen of Death?
Or just a simple error message from the application.
Which DVD software player are you using?
Also, has your IT department disable/blocked access (write, modify) to certain folders on your laptop?

I used wmp, real, and something called intervideo windvd--all of them crashed.
No there are no restrictons on the operation, actually, the only restriction they have is that the computer has novell client on it so it can get on the office network.
The IT dept. isn't allowed to fix anything under warranty themselves--they have to send them out to dell, which takes forever and a day to come back and you know as well as I do, they usually reformat to fix these kinds of problems.

Ask the IT dept to login as administrator for the laptop and see if it plays back the DVD. If it does playback, then there are some administrative rights to open up.
Does this occur with other DVDs?

The reason why I'm stressing the Administrator stuff is that some companies block installing applications, or modifying application settings on their computers - which may cause a error/crash message.
Have you tried other media players like the one Robert suggested?
