The 2006 is alittle harder to use than the 2005 but keeps your computer clean and up to date. The microsoft antispy ware beta program keeps all the ads and things you dont have setup in pc-cillin! No viruses in ove 2 years...

I use a concoction of programs to remove them from my pc. However, I've seen dozen of computer from clients who have at least 80 viruses, trojans, etc.

I have only seen three viruses since 1992. I was lucky enough to intersept by having constant updated subscriptions. I also run spyware programs. I would run a couple to stop all of them.

I use Zone Alarm pro (with their spyware and anti virus add ons), AVG, The Shield Pro, Bit Defender and Panda. Thats abit over the top I hear you all shout, and you might be right.
I have 5 teenagers almost permanently connected to the internet all networked via this pc downstairs, (thanx for the networking courses), can you put a price on peace of mind?

My "Survival Secret" is simple, and it's hardly a secret. I use OS X. ^_^

ZERO VIRUSES

by azwhall - 1/3/06 7:52 PM In reply to: How many viruses or Trojan horses wreaked havoc in 2005? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I am using Web Sweeper Root Kit, Spyware Doctor, AVG Pro for Virus protection, and Registry Mechanic to keep my Registry cleaned up.
I check daily for updates, and all these programs are run on start up with the exception of Registry Mechanic which is run after downloading programs or when my system starts to slow down.

No real problems here

by bbriley - 1/3/06 7:53 PM In reply to: How many viruses or Trojan horses wreaked havoc in 2005? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Our Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security (2005, later 2006 version) has intercepted a few critters but nothing has caused any havoc. We have an ADSL modem with a wireless gateway. And believe me, I never click on an attachment without knowing who sent it. I do consider that we have been lucky, I admit.

All I use is McAfee Security Center with VirusScan and FireWall. I can't even get into my own computer from the outside!

I have two 17" PowerBooks. I have had the one for almost 3 years. I bought my other one in April of '05. I don't have virus protection on either computer and have not gotten any viruses to date. Maybe it's a Windows thing or maybe I am just stinkin' lucky. But I have to say that I don't hear of too many, if any, people talking about their Macs being infected. Go figure.

Linux has protected my data

by SmartLP - 1/3/06 8:00 PM In reply to: How many viruses or Trojan horses wreaked havoc in 2005? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I run Linux on all 5 machines in my house. The result? No viruses, no spyware, no and Ad-ware for the last 3 years.
Linux has grown up alot over the past few years. There is no longer a reason to put up with the headaches of running Microsoft's OS.
