I have read some reviews and see that the Treo 650 is the top dog in smart phone industry. I don't need to connect online or get email from my phone, but I would like to combine my old palm pilot with a cell phone. Is there an alternative for someone who only needs the organizer part of these smart phones? Any suggestions would by great.
Thanks
Bill
This is exactly my issue as well. I was all set to buy the 650 when the price dropped to $199 but when I found out I had to sign up for a "data fee" or what ever they call it (I am on Verizon) I changed my mind. I want my calendar and contacts with me but dont need to be checking my email or surfing the net. My old Kyocera 6035 is on its last legs.
thanks!
I was also looking at Verizon (currently T-Mobile)and they also have the Blackberry 7130e, which looks to be the same price as Treo 650. I was not aware that you had to pay for data service if you bought these phones? Please reply back if your search turns up any alternatives.
Thanks
I had bought the Samsung and used it for a couple of days before I was told I needed a data plan (Verizon). If you use a Treo, Blackberry, Samsung...any smart phone, you cannot disengage the data search. I had the same desire for a phone that was not that smart. I needed a great contact manager, message center, calendar, alarm, but with more memory than the normal ''dumb'' phones. I just needed a phone that doubled as a PDA without the constant data search. My salesman told me he saw one man come in with a $2800 bill because he didn't get a data plan. Semi-smart phones are not available. I ended up with the RAZR. It's not perfect, but it is serving the purpose as good as any other phone could and better than some.
The Samsung i600 from Verizon is a smartphone with calendar, tasks, full contacts including notes, etc -- all synched easily from Outlook. There is no need for a data plan, i've not had one for over two years!
Verizon may not sell this phone any more, but it's probably available on the net. Or else you could buy mine; I'm upgrading to a smartphonen with e-mail capablity!
Also, the MPx200 is another excellent choice if you dont need all of the extra crap - its especially handy if your contacts and calendar are on outlook since it syncs with outlook seamlessly
