Hey,
I recently purchased a HP DV4000 laptop and was wondering if this ram would be compatible with the laptop. I bought DDR2 SDRAM (1x512MB) memory with the system. I figured i could buy another 512 MB chip for cheaper than the $125 that HP required me to spend in order to upgrade.
This is the one i was looking at:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145554
In order to check whether it is compatible.
is your dv4000 the newer model? only the newer models of dv4000 support ddr2. if have the older one, probably not.
if your ram has the same pin it will work. even if the speed of the ram in your hp is slower than the ddr2 pc4200 speed of the newegg ram you want, your computer will cap your newegg's ram's speed to the speed of your hp's ram.

Their program will help you find out what kind of RAM you need, and to see if the one from Newegg is compatible or not.
