I may have previously put this on the wrong forum. I have an itunes library from my cd collection only - none have been purchased online. I have a family member who would like some of the songs for his recently acquired Macvision MP3 player. I was wondering if there was a way to do this since we can't seem to transfer them to his mp3 player. Is there a way to do this without having to dig for the original cd's and download them onto Windows Media Player or any other medium? Or, perhaps, I am going about this all wrong. I am pretty technologically inept you may have to go step-by-step for me. Thanks in advance

Conversion out of itunes is not allowable but you can find such on google.com

by dirk128 - 12/31/05 1:36 AM In reply to: converting itunes library for mp3 player by mel031When you ripped your cd's into iTunes, did you use the default settings? If so, you imported the cd's with the default AAC encoder. AAC files will not play on the Macvision.
However, if you set iTunes to use the MP3 encoder (Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Importing), just go to the folder where all your music is stored (likely the iTunes folder in MyMusic), plug in your player into a USB port and drag and drop the tracks from the iTunes folder to your MP3 player. iTunes will have organized the music in folders by artist and album already to speed finding the ones you want.
If you imported your music in AAC, you could re-set iTunes to import music using the MP3 encoder (Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Importing)and then in iTunes right click the songs you want to transfer to the MP3 player, and select convert to MP3 in the pop-up menu. It will degrade the sound a little, but you probably won't notice. Then transfer the converted tracks to your MP3 player. Use the custom setting if you want variable bit rate(VBR)MP3's or bitrates higher than 192 kbps.
If you use other MP3 players other than iPod's and still use iTunes for your music. Change the import setting to MP3 and leave it there.
Remember, every player plays MP3. But all don't play AAC or WMA.
