Verizon RAZR: super buggy

by msof - 12/30/05 11:49 AM

I got a Verizon RAZR yesterday - easily the buggiest piece of consumer electronics I have ever purchased. The phone keeps crashing, in fact even one of Verizon's own web pages crashes the browser. The most easily reproducible bug I have found so far is the following:

1. Go to VCast and start a video
2. Press the up arrow to flip the video stream to landscape mode
3. Close the lid while the video is playing
4. Reopen the phone
5. Turn the phone off

The phone will then enter a "limbo" mode in which the backlight stays on, draining the battery quickly but the phone cannot be turned either on nor off. You have to remove the battery to get out of this mode.

(Warning: doing this may wipe your complete address book, as well as any settings such as Bluetooth phone pairings you may have stored in the phone.)

Can anyone else reproduce this bug on their V3? I am surprised that Verizon would even dare shipping these phones, they may soon have a major product recall and/or class action lawsuit on their hands...
