2006: Year of the Gradients

if you want to be technical, this has been a trend started since halfway though 2005 as far as i can remember, but it will hit critical mass this year. following the lead of mozilla.com and digg.com (just to name a staggeringly limited few) more and more websites will convert their UI to a simple, gradient heavy layout. while apple's tab system will start to either be abandoned or combined with the bright, happy primary colors of yellow, green and blue slowly gaining or losing intensity and hue in typical gradient fashion.
