who the hell cares, just use the component, yea thats right, its actually possible that HDMI worsens quality, I rather have slighty soft and smooth looking than too crisp and rigid looking

agree with 're'

yeah,

i had the same problem as everyone else on this board with HDMI - i was super PO'ed at first, but then i realized that HDMI looked identical to my component signal. i'm returning my HDMI cable to best buy. also, i agree that there are only like 7 HD channels anyways, and a lot of the time they still aren't broadcasting in HD anyways..

my 2 cents

Time Warner 8300 in Syracuse NY WORKS with HDMI

by tbcass - 12/11/05 5:26 AM In reply to: HDMI and Time Warner Cable by Esw88

I have Time Warner here in Syracuse NY. The 8300 HD DVR DOES have the HDMI option. Push settings twice. Go down to Digital Audio. You will not see the HDMI option until you push the RIGHT button. There you will see a choice of Dolby Digital, HDMI and "Other". Choose HDMI. I believe many of you don't see the HDMI option and give up. You must push the right (not left) button to see the HDMI option.

UPDATE: Finally the HDMI is working NY 11358

by laichungleung - 12/11/05 8:08 AM In reply to: HDMI and Time Warner Cable by Esw88

I don't believe the user can do anything to make this work until you TWC upgraded your box. that's my thought. Out of the blue, I switched to HDMI for my TV input, from the DVR remote press settings, press A for for more settings, and finally there is the Audio Digital Out which I have been looking for for months, once it's there just change to HDMI and audio comes out loud and clear.
That's it. I don't care how many times you reboot, if it's not there, it's not there. If it's there, just a matter of choosing it.
Good luck.
I live NY 11358. The last time I checked was just a couple days ago, and the Audio Digital Out wasn't there at all.
The HDMI digital seems loud and clear and the picture is just great. My TV is a TOSHIBA 46HM95, so their HDCP implementation is not a problem.

New Development

Just out of the blue,12/11/05, before reading anything here, I hit the settings button and there it was: "Audio Digital Out". The choice I get is: "Dolby Digital" or "Two Channel Only", whatever that means. I do not see "HDMI". Maybe it is because I have not selected HDMI on my TV and the HDMI cable is not plugged in. I will try it later.

Hope you are getting it

Once you plugged in the HDMI cable, select the TV input for HDMI. Then proceed to change the settings in the DVR. you should be fine. After watching the HDMI video for a while, I notice there is some intermittent color change to blue then to normal, it's annoying. I ended up switching back to component. So much so for this HDMI ordeal.

SA 8300 TWC and Sony KDSR60XBR-1

by higherend - 1/9/06 11:56 AM In reply to: UPDATE: Finally the HDMI is working NY 11358 by laichungleung

I have the HDCP Error and I have spent $100's on HDMI Cables and can't get this to work any help? Time Warner says it's Sonys problem and Sony says Nonsense! We build our TV's to work with everything! I really need help here...

Do you get video and no audio

by laichungleung - 1/10/06 6:24 PM In reply to: SA 8300 TWC and Sony KDSR60XBR-1 by higherend

If you get video and no audio and if you go settings, additional settings, and don't find Digital Audio Output, then there is almost nothing you can do. One day my digital audio output option just showed up and from then on it just works, and on the first couple of days I got HDMI video and audio, the video has intermittent flicker and now it's all good, no flicker.
Again, I think it's some "firmware" directly from the source, as an end-user, I did nothing to make it happen other than picking the Digital Audio Ouput which was not previously available.
Good luck.

Sharp Aquos HDMI 8300 Time Warner FINAL FIX Solution

by hgold4423 - 8/18/06 11:12 PM In reply to: UPDATE: Finally the HDMI is working NY 11358 by laichungleung

Everybody has given good advice about going to settings and pressing A and switching the time warner box output to HDMI but one has to realize that there might be an extra step neeeded some TV's have more than one HDMI input where one is for audio/video and the other is only for video while the red/white cable is used in addition.

FOr Example:

The sharp Aquos has input 3 and input 4 which are designated for the HDMI input -- input 3 is the only one that has audio/video HDMI, with input 4 you need to have the red/white cable also plugged in

THE SOUND IS INCREDIBLE AND I DONT HAVE THE BEST HEARING.

HDMI/Yamaha RX-V2600 - upscale issues

by chambers74 - 12/11/05 11:23 AM In reply to: HDMI and Time Warner Cable by Esw88

The fix I read about in this thread allowed me to hook my Samsung DLP (5067W) directly to the TW cable box (8300HD) using the HDMI cable. As promised, after doing the process set out by mattmeister, the HDMI option came up in the advanced menu.

My issue is that I just bought the Yamaha RX-V2600 receiver on the premise that I could hook the DVD player and the cable box that had HDMI out and the cable box through it. When I do this though, I get the message that says roughly "Your HDTV does not support HDCP. Use component connections." There are a few threads with discussion about this issue, but have no definitive answers. Anyone know what can be done?

HDMI and receiver

by avalon2001 - 12/11/05 4:13 PM In reply to: HDMI/Yamaha RX-V2600 - upscale issues by chambers74

Maybe the same issue but what am I gaining if I use HDMI from STB(Time Warner) to TV, and then connect to a receiver with no digital input using component cables?

Receiver Connection

by Esw88 - 12/13/05 8:21 AM In reply to: HDMI and receiver by avalon2001

Now that I have sound and video thru one cable, HDMI, what happens if I hook up a receiver to this set up? Since HDMI carries both audio and video and runs from the Cable box to the TV, how do I connect a receiver? Assume that the receiver does not have an HDMI connection.

HDMI hookup adding receiver (reply to Esw88)

by LawwDogg - 12/28/05 6:25 AM In reply to: Receiver Connection by Esw88

Hi --- I've had the setup you've described for a few months, but was too lazy to get it working right until the other day. BUT it works now.

I have my SA8300HD hooked up to a Sammy HDTV via HDMI cable, and am running a digital optical audio out from the cable box to my Yamaha receiver. I too was concerned that since the HDMI runs both sound and audio direct to the TV, there could be issues/why have the receiver, etc. However, once I set the TV up so that it had fixed volume (as normal when you hook up a Cable Box/TV/receiver), it appeared the digital audio hook up was working --- I got the audio from the cable box running out of my receiver.

BUT, the problem was that the audio running out of the receiver was not in Dolby Surround, which was really annoying. I knew it wasn't the receiver problem, because when I played DVD movies (or Xbox games) through the reciever with the same brand optical audio cable, the receiver automatically knew when the output was DTS, or Dolby, etc. At first I thought the HDMI was to blame, because I thought perhaps you had to run both video AND audio through the receiver (e.g., that the video signal was what would "tell" the receiver that the tv show was in dolby surrond, and since the HDMI wasn't running through the receiver, the receiver didn't know any better). So I went to Radio Shack, about to sadly buy component cables to run through my Receiver (the receiver doesn't support HDMI, I didn't want to pay that much for a receiveR), when the Radio Shack guy told me that that was NOT the problem --- that the digital audio SHOULD work through the receiver, even if HDMI is running from the cable box to the TV.

SO HERE is the long-winded solution (if you've read this far, you deserve a medal, but forgive me, I'm just so happy I figured it out!). In your SETTINGS on your cable box, you have to change the AUDIO OUT setting from HDMI to Dolby Surround. You then get the HDMI video benefits (which, I should note, are not noticeably different from good component cables, but that's a whole different issue), and you get the full audio benefits of an optical audio out/dolby surround running from your cable box through your receiver.

FINAL NOTE: i figured this out last night, and when I put on a TV show, my receiver showed, for the FIRST TIME, that it was pumping Dolby surround through all 5 speakers (As opposed to just stereo sound). I didn't take the time to check if there was any issue with a delay between audio and video, etc. And of course, then I started messing around with the cable box settings, mistakenly put on 480i output to the cable box, and NOW can't watch TV at ALL because my TV doesn't display 480i, and I can't even get the cable box to show the menu!!! hahahaha.

Had the same problem. Fixed it by unplugging the stb, wait a few minutes, plug back in,turn it on, wait a bit and it will reboot. Reset the format on the box. Forget 480. Set it to the 2 higher resolutions. Then go to settings on your remote and set the format to fixed.
