My DirectTV Tivo has the option to send the signal or record to VCR, can I use the same output and simply send the signal to a DVD recorder? Or is it more complicated and require a PC or special software, etc.?
Anyone have the simple answer to help me avoid a tech call??
Thanks very much.
Provided your DVD recorder has the same input connections as your TiVo outputs are, you should be able to record the signal. Recording to a DVD in this case is no different than recording to VHS. The reason for using a PC or Mac is to edit your footage and dump what you don't need, and / or make a much more involved movie for DVD. If all you want to do is record to DVD for archive and watch it later, then a DVD recorder is fine.
Dan,
Thanks for your quick reply to my simplistic question. I suspected that might be the case and feel like a dope, but I wanted to confirm....I'll check the connections and then find the right DVD recorder.
Appreciate the help!!
Thanks to Dan for answering the question, that it would be the same as archiving to a VCR. Since I have Direct TV, I get a lot of movies without commercials and would like to archive without worrying about editing. I have HDTV and an HD DVR....what is the best DVD Recorder to record from my Direct TV/Tivo DVR in HD with surround sound, etc???
Any recommendations are welcome....I'm pretty much a novice, so please keep the answers as simple as possible....thanks!!
HD DVD recording is just now coming on the market. It's not available to the general market yet, but there are a couple available at a high price. The problem is that HD DVD platforms are still trying decide on which of the two formats will be accepted (Red or Blue laser). If you are determined to do HD DVD recording, you'll have to wait. If not, then any DVD recorder will work (I like Panasonic DVD machines) because any output from your HD DVR will be scaled downwards to standard-def signals. The good news is that when HD DVD units become available, they will be backward compatible (current DVDs will play on the HD units).
