Okay, I've read some postings on the internet and there seems to be no consensus diagnosis/solution:
I have an internal 60gb hard drive that I converted to an external by means of a modded case sold from a computer store. I've been using this drive "externally" for almost a year with no issues. Yesterday my drive stopped showing up normally and I get the error message "USB Device Not Recognized". I've tried rebooting, switching ports, checking connections, etc. Nothing has worked. In addition, because this was an internal drive changed to an external one there are no drivers to update, it should just show up in XP like it has for the last year, but no luck. I'm running XP Pro, and IBM desktop and Service Pack 2. Any ideas that can help me out of this nightmare? Thanks!
If you've exhausted all the options ... that is checked the USB cable, the PC ports, and the AC adapter....pull the drive from the external case and test it in another system. It's possible the drive has died however my guess is the enclosure electronics have failed.
If you want good external enclosure ... see my post above.
Let me know what you find.
