I have been shopping for a camera and have become so confused. I will be using this camera to take pictures of my boys wrestling. Rarely can I be mat side so I need something with a large zoom. I have only owned a point and shoot camera in the past. I am willing to learn but need to be able to take good stop action photos in low lighting conditions now.
I have been considering the Nikon D-50 but am not sure if it is too much of a camera for me. Also if I buy this camera I am not sure what lenses etc... to buy with it.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I will be buying this camera right away.
To get good action shots in low light you need a DSLR camera. The D50 is a good choice.
Lenses is an area where few people agree.
Some lenses are very expensive.
So.....
For a balance in price and performance, I would say something like a 28-200mm zoom lens. When installed on the D50 it is equivalent to 45-320mm.

D50 with 28-200 mm is a good choice. You can also think about compact camera viz. Sony cybershot DSC H1 or Canon S2 IS.These two models have almost all the features you want.
Go for a new Fujifilm 5200. It has what you need. I own it myself. It's great!
