Hi, There ! My Daughter & I Both Have Epson C62s.....

by tobeach - 11/22/05 12:12 AM In reply to: Ink Cartridges....Refill vs Remanufacrured vs New Vs ?? by dragonbiker

(our 2nds after previous ones died after good service) additionally I have a HP all in one (older PSC500).
I have used both new Epson cartridges in both Black & Color, and remade ones by Correctype & Staples . Either seems satisfactory for usual office type uses and rendering photocopy in B or C. I don't use for printing High Quality Photos. Went this route after carts for new machine were 2+ times the price of previous Epson printers carts.
My daughter uses new Epson black & color carts but refills only the black one (since as student she uses tons) having it done at an Island Ink kiosk in mall. She figures 4 refills before buying new black.
HP has had only new and doesn't get much use.
All are now out of warranty period. Correctype claims theirs meets manuf.warranty specs.
Island Ink showed daughter a Epson shipping box claiming they actually do use manuf. ink for refills.
Could be a con but black has worked well.
I feel that color mixing of inks to render proper color shade is so critical that its risky to do refil route.
Additionally, several manufacturers are trying to use tech to create a non-copy market by using ultra small jets that will clog without their ultra fine particle inks or other methods to prevent you using other after warranty expires. What about a 4,000% markup?? Perfume producers: Eat your hearts out!! :-)

small particles

by bjw1 - 12/3/05 8:30 PM In reply to: Hi, There ! My Daughter & I Both Have Epson C62s..... by tobeach

When you mentioned ultra small jets, would that include the Canon MP Pixma 780? I bought one in March 2005 and love it. I noticed teh generic inks i've been using since original set ran out, are off in color. Not that important, since i need the savings. But latest cartridge from a different company, is printing very faint. I have to use "standard" setting to get "draft" appearance, for example. Canon says only use theirs, naturally. Said other brands can damage my printer, and suggested i take it to repair shop! Perhaps i just need to return these generics for refund and buy brand? And hope it starts working ok agian? Also, soon after the new ink tank was installed, it's develped other problems, like rattling when scanning and getting confused as to it's paper size setting. Thanks!!

Inkjets are expensive, period!

by Willy - 11/22/05 6:12 AM In reply to: Ink Cartridges....Refill vs Remanufacrured vs New Vs ?? by dragonbiker

Inkjet printers work best with new ink carts from the OEm, but since even OEM can sooner or later the inkjets themseleves generate problems. Remans are best from a trustd source, so once you find one stay with it. A refill will work fine provided the ink used is OK and the refiller is doing the proper refill method. I suggest no more tha 5-6 refills or after poor print output to pitch the ink cart(printhd?). Alot depends on the printer used some use inkcart with printhd. and others can replace ink carts alone and last the printhd. can be replaced while others can on an end-user basis as easily as a new ink cart. I found HP and Canon to be the easist to work with. Xerox is the most expensive, while Epson has the best output. Epson will usually be problematic after sometime, But HP usually the recovers quickly from a simple cleaning. Canon too depending on the model and overall isn't that expensive to operate.

I do have a complaint about "all-in-one" printers that have fax, copy, print modes, they can be very hard to fix and since they in general tend to work more are easily brought into a crisis as problems arise. So if you do alot of one mode it better to get something that's designed for such.

tada -----Willy :)

OK..OK...Pipe down everyone..Dragonbiker..

If you are looking for something for the every day run of the mill copy go ahead and get off-brand ink and paper. But remember one thing...they will only last a few years as opposed to 100yrs as flaunted by HP. Enough said here. I'm going to find another problem where I'm REALLY needed. and get into more trouble..expecially with Grif around. ;)

and life goes on...

Canon Rules {$34.60 vs $600}

by Knightcrawler - 12/2/05 2:29 AM In reply to: Ink Cartridges....Refill vs Remanufacrured vs New Vs ?? by dragonbiker

Bought a Canon IP4000, it cost $34.60 for bulk ink that will refill each cart 10 times. The cost works out to $1.35 for pigment black and 70 cents for each color every refill.

Considering that a Canon OEM cart cost:

$12 x 5 = $60 x 10 = $600

So $600 versus $34.60 it's worth the effort to refill.

Photos look about the same as the Canon OEM. I still have a lot of Canon Glossy Photo Plus Inkjet Paper left that I bought on Black Friday and Kirkland Glossy paper from costco.com

It's high quality formulabs ink !!!

I use no-name ink cartridges @ ebay for $ 2.45 each, great.

by aarnoldt - 12/2/05 2:30 AM In reply to: Ink Cartridges....Refill vs Remanufacrured vs New Vs ?? by dragonbiker

Their last as long as OEM and look just as good. No mess as refilling ink causes.

Reman ink cartridges

by morninglory - 12/2/05 10:16 AM In reply to: I use no-name ink cartridges @ ebay for $ 2.45 each, great. by aarnoldt

I mostly print for fun and recipes and a few things my clients ask for (my "clients" are elderly people that I clean house for). I buy my ink from 123Inkjets.com and have never had a problem. The black is $6.60 for my C42UX and shipped free to my door. The color is $9.95. I would pay more than double for the name brand Epson and would have to go to a mall in the next town, 18 miles away, and fight the traffic. Even 2-day Fed Ex is cheaper than that.

Does this belong here?

by valentine39 - 12/2/05 4:07 AM In reply to: Ink Cartridges....Refill vs Remanufacrured vs New Vs ?? by dragonbiker

I recently bought a large picture of the Grand Canyon as seen from the North Wall. It is an Ink Jet print on silk media. Size about 36"W X 24" H. The photo artist, Sam Pathi, said the photo had an estimated life of 300 yrs. Way longer than I need. His printer takes over an hour to produce the print. Cost for media and ink to him about $150.00 per print.

I guess that what I am trying to say is you get what you pay for and use what you need to to satisfy the requirements.

I use an HP business inkjet 2200 for documents W/O graphics and an Epson C88 if printing graphics material. Th HP is fed LD Products noname ink and the Epson Epson ink.

2 general types of ink...dye based, pigment based...

by reefurbb - 12/2/05 4:29 AM In reply to: Ink Cartridges....Refill vs Remanufacrured vs New Vs ?? by dragonbiker

DO NOT USE "UNIVERSAL INJET REFILL KIT" from local stores. Wrong type ink, only works for 1 or 2 fills, then plugs jets.
GET THE PROPER FORMULA. Avoid ink suppliers that claim it works for many types of printers. Try the cheaper suppliers that list differen kits for different printers.
DO NOT LET CARTRIDGE GET TOO LOW ON INK BEFORE REFILL. Jets will burn out, not work, when being zapped to print with little or no ink. The copper ribbon on the backside is actually little resistors and can fail.
SOME MANUFACTURERS THWART YOU by having an ink level monitor chip on the cartridge that won't reset on a refill and will continue to act empty. There are a few workarounds for some...lots of printer button pushing.

I've used refill kits for 2 years, got a great deal at a computer show-sale, and the above advice. Paid $40 for a 4 bottle kit, Lexmark, still using it. Had to buy a new black after 27 refills, new color after 4, my fault. Ebay is cheap but some people sell "outdated" new cartridges that they bought very cheap. Tape on jets is supposed to prevent dryout but 6 mos on shelf+6 mos outdate=risk of some colors not working.

oops i did that

by bjw1 - 12/3/05 8:40 PM In reply to: 2 general types of ink...dye based, pigment based... by reefurbb

... kept printing on the last two cartridges, after getting low ink warning. Then third replacement tank is printing faint from day one. Does it need repair or something i can do myself? Thank you! I have a Canon MP Pixma 780.
