Motorola e815 vs. v710

by Sue Esponte - 11/21/05 10:05 AM

Okay, here's the deal. My current Motorola is no longer a flip. It's actually more of a flop since the top and bottom are barely hanging together by a thread (don't ask).

I've always preferred Motorolas over other phones so I'm not looking for an alternate brand. And, unfortunately, although I prefer Verizon's service, their selection of phones absolutely sucks (and yes, I'm stuck in a contract anyway). So, whereas I'd prefer a Razr, the best I can really do is an e815. I went into the store set on buying an e815 to replace my ailing cell when the rep suggested that I consider a v710.

Why? Because after rebates, I can get a v710 with a FREE bluetooth headset for about $25. The e815 will run me about $50 PLUS the cost of the headset (figure another $75-100).

Now, I've read a number of reviews on the different features among the two phones, but I'd like to opinions from people with real world experience with the v710. I don't think I've heard any negatives about the e815, but I've read a number of reviews knocking the v710 essentially as a "feature filled phone that misses its target."

I know the e815 is relatively new, but I don't know how 'old' the v710 is. And, since I tend to hold onto my phones for a year or two (its the one technology I'm not a total junkie about), I don't like buying an out of date phone.

What do you think? Is the v710 worth the savings or is the e815 really worth the extra?

Thanks!!!

E815 vs. V710 Motorola

The V710 is basically the same phone as the E815 with improvements in the camera's pictures and additional ringtones. The E815 has a web access feature that is costly but they are almost the same phones.
If more bells and whistles are important buy the E810,
if not the V710 is a good "free" phone.

E815

I really like the E815. It is simple enough for the business user (me) and makes my wife happy with the camera, mp3 player and all that other stuff (crap to me) Its well made and I have had no problems. The battery is decent, but get the car charger....I often forget to charge mine while at home so I have to do it on my commute (luckilly its an hour drive). I personally despise the razr. Very flashy but useless phone. Any specifice questions just ask. There are good points and not so good points to any phone.

E815

Since the original poster wants a Motorola and the previous posters recommend the E815, I would agree that the original poster should get that phone. I don't know if you do anything fancy with the phone, but if you transfer certain data, the E815 is the way to go. The V710 is a phone you should stay away from for that feature since the Verizon version of the phone disabled transferring all data with the phone, both bluetooth and with data cable. They did that so you had to use the Get it Now® in order to transfer all data. Because they didn't disclose that, Verizon was sued and discontinued the phone right away, though numerous resellers offer the phone. If that's not an issue, then the V710 is the way to go since you basically would get the phone free. I would get Motorola if I thought they made good phones. My bad experience with the V120c and my brother's bad experience with the V265 for reception have caused both of use to stay away from Motorola. They're fine in strong signal areas, but don't handle weak signals well, and I live in an area with plenty of towers.
