Nobody goes into an endeavor expecting to be caught, they all think that they are smarter than everyone else and will NOT be caught. Besides that, they would not enlist the company employees in the endeavor to begin with. That would be committing suicide for them, if more than one person knows something, then eventually “everyone” will know that something. The only way to keep a secret is to be the only one who knows the secret; even then it eventually slips out in most cases (called “ego”).
Look at all the corporations that have been “busted” of late. None of them “expected” to get caught, they just thought everyone else was “dumber” than they were. That expectation is not always true.
I don’t believe that Peter Norton would do anything along the lines of the villainous postulations in the postings that have been left here. I do however believe that there are people out there who would, and if so, they will eventually be exposed in one way or another. Time is not in favor of the unscrupulous.
Anti-virus companies depend on viruses to support their business; it's their livelihood. To all those sceptics, you have to understand that anti-virus companies would go out of business if it weren’t for viruses. Besides, I don't think someone would spend countless hours in front of a computer screen developing a virus unless he/she was under some corporate payroll.
You might as well say that American car makers build faulty cars just so we have to have them repaired. Nonsense! All our troubles come from little green men from outer space.
Come on! think about it! what kind of losers have time to make hundred's of virus' a week! I find it amusing how norton has a virus fix the day after the virus is out.
What's the motive? There are enough crackers and script kiddies out there to drive the market. Why take the chance? You think McAfee wouldn't be looking for something to pin on Symantec and vice versa? If an AV vendor got caught, they'd be out of business - huge penalties and no more customers. Whatever tiny upside there might be is far outweighed by the massive downside.
This same "reasoning" would lead to the inevitable conclusion that ambulance drivers cause heart attacks, McDonalds is the cause of hunger, cops cause drivers to speed, pharmas invent diseases, and teachers make toddlers ignorant. Oh crap. I just launched five more crack-brained conspiracy theories.
Most of the time, the solution for a new virus was found too quickly and that is why i felt suspicious.
Big Bissiness will almost always do whatever it takes to make money. Encouraging Hackers to make new virus strains is a logical extension of that concept.
This gem of wisdom comes from someone who can't even spell business.
NO!
First of all, it seems from my experience on other message boards and forums that those that can't come up with any thing else to say start to rip on other's use of grammar. However, I've also noticed that when you are the one being ripped, you start to forget about proofreading.
Secondly, although I know very well not to believe every thing that I read on the 'net, what has Guru said that would make someone automatically think he is lying about his work experience? Also, even if he has not been 100% truthful on that subject, what has he said that is wrong? If you question the individual companies, you question the integrity of the individuals that work for those companies. Granted, some individuals at some companies do deserve to be questioned, but I would doubt that there are many of them, if any at all, at the ''big time'' companies involved in this subject matter. I would assume that there are some very good virus programers working for some of those companies, but who better to break down a virus program and figure out how to combat it? Just like the CIA may want to hire some hacker who has broken through their security programs in order to better that security.
And one last thing, if you are making money based on the fears of others created by third parties, why in the world would you waste some of that money spending it to have someone creating something that someone else would do for you for free without you having to ask them to do it???? (If you can understand that, than I think I need another beer!)
I also think some SpyWare program folks do the same thing. I downloaded a trial of one. No sooner would I get a warning from the manufactor of a new threat than it would find it and delete it. I would do a search on the web for the threat and find no hits.
What happens is that a virus is released. AV community start getting reports. Engineers start working feverishly for a fix and a prevention. News of the new virus finally leaks to the public. AV community release fixes. So ... many times you get an update long before a new virus hits the news. Once in awhile a virus acts so fast that it is in the media before a fix is released. It may seem like the AV community has a fix within days. When they do, they have usually been working on it for some time before you ever heard about it.
I really don't think it be in their interest.Short term would I agree boost up sales. However some of you are highly skilled with pc and I can't see how you would fail to track back where it come from.Eventually one of you would have tracked it.One hit wonder is one thing, but if someone keeps doing it,it only takes a little slip and bang goes their good reliable name.I for one without this site would have given up years ago.
ONE MIGHT ENTERTAIN THAT THOUGHT MOMENTARILY - BUT SERIOUSLY IT WOULD LOGICALLY THEN FOLLOW THAT AUTO BUMPING AND REPAIR SHOPS WENT OUT AND CAUSED ACCIDENTS TO INCREASE THEIR WORKLOAD & SUBSEQUENT INCOMES.
