I am very satisfied with this software...would not have any other

non-root users of Linux don't require A/V software!

by bob.compton - 11/26/05 4:45 PM In reply to: Which antivirus utility protects your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I'm yet to find a virus (or spyware for that matter) that will adversely effect my Linux systems. Thus, I do not run any A/V or anti-Spyware and enjoy the added RAM & CPU cycles for MY use!

AVG - neither love nor hate - seems to do the job ok and is reasonably easy to use.

KasperSky AV

by forget_me_not81 - 11/26/05 7:55 PM In reply to: Which antivirus utility protects your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Hi All,

Well I use Kaspersky... I guess it's perfect!

But the most bugging thing about it is that it requires more than one update per day, which means; interrupting me more than once while I'm online.

But anyway, as long as it's for my PC sake, I can take it!

Panda

by navenoxin - 11/26/05 11:09 PM In reply to: Which antivirus utility protects your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

panda AV rocks... ive never had a virus with it and it has good features- inclusive firewall and is constantly being updated. It is much better than sluggish norton (which i had before this).

NOD32

by lebonmarchant - 11/27/05 2:13 AM In reply to: Which antivirus utility protects your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I've tried all the others and had problems. Except for Norton. Their paranoid copy protection and high priced subcriptions was what did them in.

Kaspersky crashed my computer during installation. (So badly that I had to pull the plug.)

McAffee was furnished free by my company. It used so much
CPU time that I took it out 15 minutes after installation.

Some of the others were just old computer driver's instinct. That is, something just didn't look right and I lost my nerve.

I don't need no stinkin' anti-virus app.

by greggc15 - 11/27/05 5:31 AM In reply to: Which antivirus utility protects your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Because I am running OS X. Never had any anti-virus software, never had any viruses.

Buyer Beware: McAfee is NOT USER FRIENDLY!!!

by NKFC-fireman - 12/5/05 2:48 AM In reply to: Mcafee by jrenjr

I have been dealing with McAfee since buying my computer in early 2001. After the virus protection that came with that purchase expired I purchased McAfee Internet Security ver. 5.0. When that expired I began getting annoying and frequent pop-ups telling me to update my service. I went and purchased McAfee internetsecuritysuite 2005 ver. 7.0. After I installed it the pop-ups continued. McAfee support failed to provide the correct means of stopping them. I finally stumbled across something that looked promising in my Add/Remove and got rid of the pop-ups.
My ver. 7.0 was due to expire March 29, 2006 but something went wrong. It somehow expired a few weeks ago. I had to Add/Remove expunge all of it from my computer before I could get my internet service to be allowed to operate. Of course I could not get to McAfee's internet support site without doing this.
McAfee's Customer Support responded that I should go to its Technical Support. McAfee's Technical Support did not even verify that their response matched my computer's operating system. I have still not re-installed the software because McAfee has yet to respond to my response to their response to being informed that their first Technical Support response was useless to me. So if you have not learned to operate 4 networked computers and are concerned about more than virus problems, try to find something user friendly.

Which anti-virus utility protects your computer?

by ivnprt - 11/27/05 12:52 PM In reply to: Which antivirus utility protects your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I used CA EZ anti-virus and it was ok up until one year ago when I caught a virus. They looked at my problem and concluded that it was not a high priority virus and that micosoft needed to make a change in order to rectify the situation. Reading one of your forums, someone wrote about Avast. Since it is free, I downloaded and tried it. It immediately cleared the virus and I haven't had a problem since.

Without a antivirus utility at present!!!

by Verdi - 11/27/05 1:28 PM In reply to: Which antivirus utility protects your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

When I was running w/Windows 98 I had Norton Anti-Virus...........When I changed to XP-Pro I could not remove the Norton completely and therefore I cannot install a utility on my present system. Believe me, I have tried..................Going to stay without one until THAT DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
