They spend all of their waking hours cleaning computers

by cconsaul - 11/27/05 8:49 AM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Nothing is more effective when it comes to deterrance, than making people clean up the messes they make. It's sheer drudgery. I'm sure that the Government (Federal, State Local, and all of the School systems in America) has enough work to keep these playfull individuals busy for decades. I don't just mean cleaning off viruses either. They should be forced to clean off adware, malware, spyware, duplicate files, bad CRCs, obsolete programming, the whole nine yards. They should have to fix trucated files, optimize and revitilize hard drives, and pop the casing and vacumn the thing out while they're at it. A few months of drudgery will take the fun out of playing GOD over the internet.

Make them wear something thst will not allow them to use a computer for.....say, 5 years. Something like the deal they put on probationers (parolees?) Just SOMETHING to keep them away, Make it permanent for severe and/or repeat offenders. ID chip under the skin?

help those they have hurt

by Sandbar - 11/27/05 11:19 PM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Under supervision, they should be forced to help people like my 80 year old mother who has to try and figure out how to get out of their mean spirited traps. She needs her computer and this really has caused unfair pain and sorrow. I wonder if they realize there are real people out there that need internet access for mental and physical health.

Prison for virus creators.

by charles domanski - 11/27/05 11:56 PM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I believe it would only effect a very small part of the actual number of virus creators because most of them live in some other country. And just because we might believe it would be the proper thing to do, there's a good chance most of these other countries would think otherwise. We would have real problems then. I mean just look at what happens to a criminal who kills people in this country and then runs across the border to Mexico. The Mexican government refuses to hand the person over to US marshals because they think we will kill them in the end if convicted of the murders. This is one and only one of the reasons I would never ever spend one penny on a vacation to any part of Mexico. We need the equivalent of the Great Wall of China between Mexico and the US. So, although I really believe an extremely long prison sentence or death by any means or banishment to some deserted island with a quarenteen around it should be the options of our judges, we would still only be bagging a few of the many virus creators and spammers.

Fine Them and Kill Two Birds with One Stone

by jimdad - 11/28/05 6:32 AM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Fine them $100 per infected computer to be distributed to the owner of each computer infected.

Finding and controlling the distribution of this money ought to keep plenty of lawyers busy and away from frivolous lawsuits which also cost the economy.

It's a crime. Lock em up!

by ryuko098 - 11/28/05 7:38 AM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Back in the 60's or 70's, it might've been funny. But nowadays, our world deals in technology. Everything is saturated by computers. Therefore, disruption to computer systems literally costs tons of money, destroys important records, stops productivity, and really, really hurts lots of people! It's just as bad as vandalizing or stealing from someone's house. Just much, much easier to do.

Lock 'em up like any other criminal!

Oh, and be smart and keep your electronic stuff secure just like you'd lock your house or car doors.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste... lets harness it

A mind is a terrible thing to waste... lets harness it! Yeah, put them in a kind of prison, but lets use them... for good, maybe a bit of channeling of the energy, but I think it could be done...

What punishment should be handed down to virus creators?

by Milo98 - 11/28/05 8:22 AM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I think they should be put to death. Simple as that. And before some bleeding heart liberal trys to say how terrible and heartless that is, just remember, there are several countries in this world where you get your hand cut off just for stealing one loaf of bread one time.

Everybody wants to complain about the viruses, but nobody wants to do anything serious about it. Execute a few of these B******* and they might start to get the idea it is unacceptable behavior. Anything less, and it's just a game to them. Besides, we could use a little cleansing of the gene pool.

It started with the Michaelangelo virus....

by dekacamp - 11/29/05 7:11 AM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

....someone at the law firm where I worked at that time said they should have their skin removed with tweezers--by the people who owned the computers that were trashed!!! It destroyed all our important data: wills, trusts, lawsuits, insurance information, etc. Took us months to recover---so much for that paperless society they said we would have!

Virus Creators punishment...

by Thomas L Clements - 11/29/05 12:55 PM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I believe in a very long jail sentence. Strict restriction from any computer contact or books relating to the same. Heavy $ penalties even to the point of restoring what was lost/destroyed (probably the hard way, without PCs. It is pure toreure when in your mind you know a better and faster way). Record of such offenses kept like sex offenders is now being kept. And last but not least, Overwatched time dealing with Elderly folk whose mind's ability to work with PCs is not functioning up to par. Especially if they refuse to have anything to do with PCs. Create the environment for them where PCs aren't a part of it and dealings with people the same to go along with retribution of equivalent amount to the destruction they've caused. Watch them like a hawk! TLC.

They should be sent to prison

by metalhead11 - 11/29/05 1:10 PM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

This is a very bad thing to do, you ruin other ppl's lives usually for no reason. This is wrong and Americans should know that. They should be sent to jail 3 months for every computer that caught his/her virus

15 Years!!!!

by Ed-duh-win - 11/29/05 5:49 PM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I think punishments should be severe!!! No prison term would conpensate for the damage suffered by the innocent or the peace of mind before being infected with virus and/or spyware.
