WinFixer 2005

by spin186 - 11/17/05 2:22 AM

What in the world is this!!! I can't get rid of it ! CONSTANTLY it keeps popping up and I do have the popup blocker on. Before it was once in awhile.....now it is over and over, etc. How can I stop this? Is my computer in need of having to be dumped and start over again? What is the best antivirus program to use? We can't turn on the firewall (which is coming on constantly) because we don't have an antivirus program. Any suggestions????

Spin,

Winfixer is nasty spyware.

Three things to start with:
1. Firewall and antivirus are totally unrelated.
2. It's totally irresponsible not to have antivirus up and running. Try free AVG, Avast or Antivir.
3. It's irresponsible not to use anti-spyware. Try free Spybot, Adaware and MS Anti-Spyware beta.

To get rid of it see if a search for "winfixer" on these forums turn up useful information and stories of success. It's a much discussed subject, unfortunately.

Having the same problem

by yudansha - 11/21/05 9:40 AM In reply to: WinFixer 2005 by spin186

I have the same problem on my computer at work. In the last few days, Winfixer has just about taken over. And yes, I have a firewall, Symantec Antivirus 10 is up and running, as is PestPatrol. Winfixer seems to skate by all of these undetected, and now when I call up PestPatrol, I get the winfixer web site instead. I've even tried going through the computer and manually deleting all the winfixer files, programs, etc.

Anybody with real insight on what to do, that would be much appreciated.

yudansha, Many have had success removing Winfixer by using the Free Trial of SpySweeper available at the link below.
