I know I'm old school here. I have quite a collecton of Laser Discs which are not available on DVD. We recently purchased an Sharp Aquos.Bottom line Laser Discs do not play well on Digital HDTV sets.
What TV's out there still will play Laser Discs and maintain quality.
What about projectors?
Thanks, I feel like a dinosaur
but I still love my LD's
Doesn't this HDTV have a composite input? Of course you are not going to see high def. but certainly not less than what you see before (I would think).
I finally found some explanations from a site called LaserDisc Forever.
http://www.mindspring.com/~laserguru/digitalage.html the article is Watching Laserdiscs in the Digital Age:A Guide to Getting the Best from Laserdisc Playback on a Digital Display. It gets into the mechanics of the problems like interlacing.
The remedies get expensive.
You may be better off going with an EDTV, most of last years plasmas were only Enhanced Definition. This might provide you with a happy middle ground, near HD quality picture but your Laser Discs won't have to upconvert nearly as much and should still look good. Plus it'll be cheaper, which is always nice.
This a very common problem when playing analog (VHS,LD,OTA NTSC) on many of the "new tech" sets. To get price down they skimp on the video scaler to convert the analog to HD so it looks rather bad on some sets.
Like the other post said you can copy them to DVD using a stand alone DVD recorder.
Get a external scaller for $370.
Or get a different HDTV. John
I also love my old pioneer l.d. player the old pro-logic sound and picture still look work fine Its sort of like a record player listining to the huge disk run up to speed and all the motors running when it changes sides The only problem is the picture is wide screen and in 4x3 so the picture is sure tiny Also did you see medium on n.b.c 3D whats your take? I bought 6 t.v. guide magazines for the glasses and some of the short 3D shots were eyepopping It would be so cool if n.b.c would make a special 3D program action outdoor shots (rollor coaster ride etc) be cool stewart norrie cadillacstew@aol.com
