Hello everyone,
I have a rebel xt and 3 lenses:-
1) 18-55mm kit lens (not much zoom)
2) Tamron 70-300mm LD macro 1:2 (too slow to focus)
3) Canon 50mm
I can't carry all these and wanted to sell these lenses get one lens 28-300mm or something around there. What do you think? I know I will lose the macro and low light shooting, but at least I’ll carry the camera with me.
Any suggestions for a lens (brand not important) ? and
If I should do this?
I can't afford a L series lens, but my budget is
around $400 (not much) I could push it to $500 by x'mas. I take pictures of everything from nature, birds, moon, etc.
Thank you for all the help and keep up the good work helping people like me out.
Nick
carrying all those lenes with you. If you want portability, perhaps you should do what many pros do. They carry a high end mega zoom point and shoot. Many carry those rather than have to always tot their collection of lenes. There are some pretty good ones out there. Check it out cause for the price of a do it all lens, you can buy a camera.
I recently bought a Promaster 28-300 for my NikonD50 and its fabulous! A local camera store is selling them for about $350 + tax. According to the salesman, the lens is designed and manufactured by Tamron. The Tamron with the same specs is over $500, and it has a lot more metal in it plus a few other features such as on-lens macro function that I don't miss.
you'll still need all those lenses. I've seen the quality of all-in-one lense, like Tamron 18-200mm. That kind of lense can't cover every aspect and details of photography. The reason why ? Distortion of shape and color in addition to the unacceptable light detection and picture's quality. My uncle, 80 years old, still carries around all his Nikon heavy lenses & camera while traveling.
Any way, I do suggest that you'll soon need Canon L-series lenses. Don't have to haste and purchase them all at once. Keep one of your wide-angle lense. Later you'll need :
1. 24-70mm F2.8L
2. 70-200mm F2.8L
These are 2 excellent lenses, but a bit heavy and expensive. You can also look for the used one instead of new costly one. I've been using these 2 lenses for nearly 2 years and shot many great pictures.
Some other alternatives ? Yes, you can also purchase some Nikon lenses and mounting device to be used on you Canon Rebel XT. Nikon lenses reveal their colorful and highly contrast when shooting on Canon.
Moreover, you can also use other brands of SLR lenses along with your Canon Rebel XT, but need the mounting device for Canon along with those other brand lenses. I did try Nikon's, Contax's, and Leica's lenses on my Canon 20D and very satisfied for the result. But, many features ( mostly automatic focus and f-stop adjustment )on other brand lenses can't be used on your Canon, unlike Canon EFS and EF lenses. Good luck and choose well.
telephoto, and will probably handle a large share of your needs. It's USM, so it will focus quickly. It's also in your price range per B&H.
