I have a notebook running Win XP, a few hours ago my system crashed and the blue screen came on, so I had to restart my system manualy.
After that CHKDSK came on, I didnt notice but it seemed that CHKDSK cant solve the problem, and it just appeared after every restart, so the dirty flag was on all the time!!
I found out that, some files and folders in Local Setting directory is corrupted and CHKDSK cannot recover or fix that! so I checked and found out that there is folder which has 2 subfolder which contain around 80 files are 12GB in size!! acutally they are consuming none and to me are just 0 byte files!! the funny thing is I cant delete them, and everytime I try that I guess this error message:
''Cannot delete R: cannot find the specified file
make sure you specify the correct path and fime name''
a note is that I can change the Folder names, but I cant do that with the files in the Folder!!
I was getting annoyed of the CHKDSK coming on all the time, so I disabled it with ''chkntfs c: /x''.
I know already one solution is to reformat the drive and get rid of the problem, But I just recently reinstalled my OS and dont want to go over it again, if by anychance I just leave it like that, is it going to cause any problems or going to be bad for my hard disk...
and if there is any other solution I would be glad if you can help.
Thanx in advance
One more thing is that, since I ran ''chkntfs c: /x'' my windows loading time has gotten much more faster!
it now takes only 3 bars in the load menu to start, previously it was around 15-18!!!
why has this happend! is it fine? everything seems to be working fine to me!!
ran a spyware / antivirus check

Thanx for the help and the link Dan!
but the problem is still there, I checked the Folder for viruses, they werent infected!
I tried deletin them with the progrmas you specified but they couldnt be erased!!
I believe the files are corrupted and arent in the OS's Data table or something like that!
