and other articles are revealing that Sony has slipped in a ROOTKIT on their music CD.
I must write that I'm not happy since I have enough trouble with Windows at times.

one of the links within it will take you to Mark Russinovich's blog at Sysinternals. While I freely admit I do not understand all of it, I found it extremely interesting - and disheartening!
Definitely worth the read..

No matter how many ways it's brought up, there "otta be a law" against it.
Hope this helps.

I looked but did not find it.
However what is news to me is Russ's indepth look at the ROOTKIT.
CD/DVD drives disappearing on Windows machines is all too common. This adds to the headaches.

I save the above link as a favorite. Clicking on the link above, then typing "rootkit" in the "Message body" section finds a lot of stuff.
Hope this helps.

But it fails 9 out of 10 or more times. Busted.
I'll try yours and file it for use later.
Thanks,
Bob
Grif's search link is really the same one that you recommended before:

Maybe so, but I couldn't search for my old post. I've moved to a new machine and didn't move all the old shortcuts (on purpose).
A clean house...

Does anyone think Sony is devious enough to plant something on their blanks? Maybe this article has made me overly suspicious?I just bought a Sony 5pk of DVD disc's and this article makes me ask.
I use them all the time and since there is no copyright to protect, there is no software installed.
Hope this helps.

Still,Sony's action shall make this my last purchase of their products. This may keep them under a never ending cloud of suspision.(sp) lol mental block

I simply don't understand why companies think they can get away with stuff like this. I've bought my last Sony product. Looks like my son is getting an XBox 360, instead of a PSP for Christmas this year. Also, Sony is officially off my consideration list for HDTV.
If Sony was selling money tree seeds for $.99 I wouldn't buy one!
I stopped buying music CDs when then crippled them. Now Sony products are on the same list.
Customers can download a program to safely uninstall all the software by visiting the Sony BMG Web site at http://cp.sonybmg.com
Specifically, the "Software Updates" section and the "FAQ" section are an extremely enlightening read at the link below. In order to listen to music on a PC, you are REQUIRED to download, install and use their specific brand of music player..
