Panasonic TH-50PHD8UK aspect ratio

by Bob Werth - 10/26/05 3:40 PM

I have been investigating the Panasonic TH-50PHD8UK. The one issue I can't seem to resolve is viewing 4:3 format programs and how to avoid ''burn'' problems from the side bars or adjustments for full screem viewing? I can't find the aspect control settings (ie.full,just,etc.)that are indicated for the TH-50PX50U.These features don't seem to be available in the TH-50PHD8UK? Help Please!!

PS Any online vendor recomendations?

Panasonic TH-50PHD8UK. vrs TH-50PX50U

Here we are back to industrial model vrs the consumer model issue.
Even thought they may have the same plasma display pannel they have different electronics, each desinged for a specific use.
The TH-50PHD8UK doesn't have a tuner, the TH-50PX50U does
have NTSC and ATSC HD tuners.
Spend some time at http://panasonic.com/flash.html and compare the two.
If you but online MAKE sure the warrenty will honored. John

Aspect Ratio

I have investigated the differences...no tuner, component connections etc. but it appears the TH-50PHD8UK only has a zoom feature for dealing with Aspect Ratio. Is this a problem? The TH-50PX50U has Aspect Ratio settings of zoom, full, and just. I don't really know what these mean but I am wondering if they are significant for viewing 4:3 format. Thanks for your help!

Check Out Vanns.com...

...They are totally reliable. They're located in Montana and are real gentlemen and highly professional. I ordered my Sony 42" plasma from them and it was delivered 6 days later exactly as promised in perfect condition. I believe they are an authorized dealership of most major brands, they certainly were for Sony. Best thing of all, their extended warranty is through them and they have been in business since 1961!

At all costs, stay away from any place with an address in Brooklyn or without a physical address. They are all (and I do mean all) rip off joints. If you value your credit card, steer very clear!!!

Aspect Control Info

by ashaddy - 10/30/05 8:31 PM In reply to: Panasonic TH-50PHD8UK aspect ratio by Bob Werth

I am having some of the same questions in deciding between the TH-50PHD8UK (commercial model) and the TH-50PX50U (consumer model). If anyone has more insight into deciding between the two it would be appreciated.

That sadi I read on page 19 of the manual there are 5 Aspect modes:

Normal - 4:3 at 4:3
Zoom - Magnifies Center
Full - Max size with elongation
Just - Max size with central correction
Auto - Auto adjust between 16:9 and 4:3

The manual can be found here:
http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=94540&catGroupId=14624&surfModel=TH-50PHD8UK&displayTab=R

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much! I also got some good info from the Tech support people at Panasonic Business Support for their Monitors etc.(800) 524-1448. My only other concern was the single component input. Tech support suggested using a ''Breakout Cable'' that adapts to Component(for use of the RGB imput). This will give me the 2 component imputs(Cable and DVD) I wanted without spending more $$. It ''sealed the deal'' for me!

Good Luck and thanks again

Best Deal

I have been researching this further today and have decided to buy the commercial model (TH-50PHD8UK). Does anyone have any ideas about who has the best deals. Thanks.

Monitor Vendors

You can find vendors for the monitor thru the Panasonic Website. I am investigating a company called TV Authority(TVauthority.com). They are located in Washington state and Santa Monica Ca.. I have not purchased yet because I am checking with some business vendors that I got from the Panasonic Website. Please let me know if you get other possibilities.

Monitor Vendors

I bought the TH-50PHD8UK a few weeks ago. I won't say which online vendor I got it from. "don't want to be accused of being a salesman :)"

But be prepared to get hammered with add-ons. Like extended warranties, extra set-up and delivery fees and cables.

Don't let them talk you into to something you don't want. You'll find there advertised price isn't always true OR their in-stock availability. Be prepared to call several vendors. Don't get discouraged. Check their feedback!

I'm happy with my purchase. Picture is awesome. Make sure you have the BNC/RCA adapters.

can't get display to work

by bnicolas - 12/10/05 9:46 PM In reply to: Monitor Vendors by tsgjr

Hi,

I can't get my display to work, all I'm getting is black and white. I know I don't have a problem with my cable box because it worked fine on my old 42" HP EDTV plasma. I've tried everything on every possible menu on the remote. Any idea what I could be doing wrong?

I second using the Panasonic website. I found the local vendors to be quite competitive price-wise with those listed via the tradition Internet search. A factor not to be overlooked is the peace of mind from not having to worry about (a) shipping damage and (b) the hassle of making a return for a DOA product. Additionally, it's nice to actually *see* what you're buying.

I had a good experience with Vector Computers, which does business online as PlasmaTV4Less.com. They have a storefront in So Cal.

PlasmaTV4less

I have been contact with the store directled and they have given me a quote for the monitor and accessories... component cables and flat wall mount. Their prices seem to be very reasonable..almost too reasonable. Did you buy any accessories and were they of good quality? Is buying "Monster" cables for component connections really necessary? Any recomended mounts?

PlasmaTV4less

I, too, was taken back by their prices. I see they've raised the TH-50PHD8UK by $100, however. When I was in the market, I was eyeing PC Connection, but they raised their price twice (for a total of $250) over a two-week period.

I only purchased the monitor from them - the wallmount I used (can't remember the brand) came from a relative who received it as a bonus with his plasma, but ended up opting for a stand. I'm not a cable expert, but I've heard any quality brand will do. You should really try for S-Video or composite connections, however.

You are correct! Thank you. I checked with my local vendor (listed on Panasonic's site) and found they are $1100 below the best on-line price (with freight included). I am amazed. Thanks again.

Vendors

by glagen - 11/17/05 7:23 AM In reply to: Vendors by ashaddy

I went to the Panasonic website and searched for vendors under the Professional section. It listed 3 in my area (MA). One is too far away, the second was out of business and the third only sells to retailers. Where are you folks finding these local dealers?
Thanks,
Steve Z
