Emachines T6522 Tv Tuner with Dish setup

by aabhutta - 9/14/05 9:10 AM

Hi, first time posting at cnet hopefully i am posting at the right place.
I just got the mighty Emachines T6522 from circuitcity and love the system. I was easily able to configure the TV tuner with my analog cable as it was just puting the cable into the tuner from the wall but what about my dish network setup?. I see that Emachines has included some kind of IR transmitter but i don't know where would that go (i.e where would i plug it in my pc to have it working to control my dish receiver). Also which connection should i make from dish to my pc? (cable, antenna, svideo?). Any suggestion will be appreicated. One thing i have noticed is, although it has 1Gig of RAM but the system info only shows a max of 894MB? i know it is never supposed to be equal to one 1gig but 100 MB missing is a lot, any suggestions please.

Shared memory video

128MB is reserved for your PCs shared memory video chip. If you add a video card it will disable the onboard video and you'll get your 128MB back. I'd go with a GeForce 6600GT card if you do this. Unless you're into gaming I wouldn't bother though.

I also am very happy with my T6522. I have connected my Dish 811 HDTV receiver to my T6522 using the S-video connector. I am using MCE (XP Media Center) to program TV recordings and the computer is successfully changing channels on the 811 and recording programs.

Video Upgrade

by TravisGood - 10/29/05 6:28 AM In reply to: Graphics card ? by danny38_61

The video is on the ATI system board can be disabled. There is a PCI video slot that can be used to upgrade and bring real gaming performance to the T6522. For most uses the ATI Radeon Express 200's built-in video will do just fine but if you're a hard core gammer then you'll want to upgrade.

i gotta go with this one too, i want to get a ATI X700 for my T6522 but the description states that the the card needs a AGP slot, does the T6522 come with a AGP slot? if not, is there any way i can update to a newer card, the X200 is too cheap, and i feel i need to upgrade the card to a GDDR3 with some power. And is there a spot to hook in a new sound card? Im looking at a Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music...

IR witthT6522

by jimcorliss - 1/4/06 12:42 AM In reply to: Emachines T6522 Tv Tuner with Dish setup by aabhutta

The Comuters IR receiver plugs into the computer alows you to change the channels and operate the computer as if its a tv.... there is also a very small additional IR transmitter on a cord with some double stick tape which plugs into the back of the computers IR receiver. This you stick in front of your satelite reciever or cable box to allow the computer to change the satelight receivers channels.... so then you can setup timer recording of programs on different satelite channels.

I haven't tried this out yet but am quite impressed with the whole package as well which mine cost $560 at circuit city after a $150 rebate.

God bless,, Jim
