Humiliating public service!

by jerryfr - 9/14/05 3:24 AM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Virus', adware etc. invade my property unwanted and uninvited! Just like a burglar. Conviction (s/b a felony) should result in very humiliating public service. Fines & judgements are never collected! OJ come to mind?
FIRST OFFENSE:
Cleaning out the toilets on the NYC Subways? Ditto for the NYC Port Authority Bus Terminal.

The world needs more zoodoo and zoodoo collecters.

Old and disabled people need their grass cut and their driveways shoveled.

Hospitals and nursing homes need bedpan cleaners...

Sorry, no gloves.

SECOND OFFENSE:
Angola State (LA) Prison Farm.

Virus writer's punishment

by diablo - 9/14/05 3:32 AM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I beleive that the best punishment for the virus writer's to be for every computer that their virus attack's the offender's should have to pay for any cost's incurred in repairing all of the computer's infected & purchase a NEW computer for a charity or educational institution.
After all cost's have been covered lock them up in jail for a period of no less than (5) five years with no access to computer's for life.

Prison and More

by alicornb2 - 9/14/05 3:40 AM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

They should be sent to prison (absolutely no early out), fined, and NEVER AGAIN allowed to use any kind of computer (this includes a cell phone, since they have internet access and prison computers).

They should not be allowed access to anywhere that has computers, this includes jobs that require use of a computer. (and NO! I'm not talking about cash registers)

It would definately curb their habit, since, like all habitual criminals, they would most likely find a way around it, but it would be a start.

Punishment for virus creators

I think that virus creators deserve prison time, a five (5) year mandatory sentence. That might deter some thugs against this type of crime, knowing that if they were caught they would get a mandatory sentence. Through viruses, peoples identities can be stolen via their personal information, etc and sentences are to lenient for this behavior and innocent people are suffering due to identity theft and it is not fair that the system just slaps the hands of these criminals because of over-crowded jailhouses. Put them away for at least 5 mandatory years and maybe we will see a drop in this type of crime and let these criminals ponder for 5+ years how they screwed up someones life. When they are released it is conditional in the fact that they are not to ever own another computer - something like they do to felons, in saying that if you have a felony record you are not allowed to own a firearm. Well I think these criminals need not ever own another computer.

virus punishment

Anyone who spends the time and money to create a virus should have to spends the time and money for having done so. I feel an automatic $100,000 fine and five years in prison would be appropriate. Yes they could get out early for good behavior but I think the time spent would be an adequate deterrent from future virus manufacturing. I also believe the prison term should double for each future violation.

Punishments for virus writers

I think they should do serious jailtime, pay a hefty fine and be made to wear an ankle bracelet that reports if they get Anywhere near a computer for the rest of their lives.
Think of the businesses brought to a screeching halt because of them. Think of what they have cost personal computers.
All because they have "nothing better to do" than sit around thinking up ways to infect computers.
Maybe there should be something the population could "infect" them with?
LOL

Punishments for virus writers - ELIMINATE the problem!

by exceluser - 10/29/05 3:22 AM In reply to: Punishments for virus writers by putergoddess

While I agree with all the "putergoddess" statements, I vote for the death penalty. Regardless of whether the death penalty is invoked or not, though, I also think there should be an international agreement such that whenever computer crime crosses national boundaries, the offender becomes subject to the laws of ANY and ALL countries in which the virus causes damages. I recall a case some years back in which a Philipine user created a virus while trying to steal bank passwords. This virus propagated world-wide and caused untold damage to businesses and personal users. Yet when the case came before a judge the virus writer was released because "there were no Philipine laws against writing viruses." The international law should be written such that the country of origin is allowed to be the first to take action, but with the caveat that no more than six months may elapse FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER, and THEN any and all countries may prosecute AFTER the first country. Further, in cases such as above, the country of origin would become liable for damages sustained by the writer - in addition to giving up the writer for prosecution in the other countries. the
