Theoretically (of course), you could try holding down the Shift key while the CD loads.

CNet reported this at http://news.com.com/2100-1025_3-5087875.html?tag=st_rn

Feel free to share this bit of trivia as well as the other method of usign AUDACITY to capture your tracks.

With WMP 10 the tracks skip constantly. DO not try to copy or rip a copyprotected BMG CD. I am checking out EAC v0.95b1. So far ripping to MP3 worked fine with LAME 3.90 but I am still attempting to make an exact copy with this software. Still new to me so if someone knows please post.

WMP is not used by my or anyone I know.

There are better choices out there.

I use CDEX for CD to MP3 and the MP3s fall neatly into a directory based on each CD.

What more could I want?

Unable to rip BMG CD's with LAME 3.90

by rick1635 - 10/25/05 12:46 PM In reply to: Just backing you up. by R. Proffitt Moderator

Just bought my second BMG CD David Gray, Life In Slow Motion. CD rips improperly even after holding down the shift key disabling the anti-piracy software. I am unable to rip legal MP-3's for my MP-3 player. Any suggestions?

Did you notice that forum policy?

While I feel for you, help may be spotty due to these forum's policies on copy protections.

I know the policy but...

I own the CD, purchased it from a local retailer and all I want to do is rip it into MP3 format like I have done with so many other CD's. This is for MY private and personal use and the option of having a WMA format does not work for my Garmin IQ 3600 which only reads MP3 format.

If I was dishonest and wanted to rip off the music, it would have happened already. If technology is changing to the point where a person who wants to make legal copies is unable to then maybe the policies of popular forums such as CNET would change the policy to reflect the arrogance and greed of the recording industry and make this information available. Of course we are all beholden to some greater corporation and maybe CNET can't do this because of all the the monies recieved from advertising. I guess I can understand but still believe it compromises this and all forums connected to these types of issues.

This fix is not against forum policy

by mrmacfixit Moderator - 10/25/05 6:25 PM In reply to: Unable to rip BMG CD's with LAME 3.90 by rick1635

The protected CD's rip correctly in iTunes on a Mac. The copy protection does not function on a mac so only the audio tracks are seen and are therefore rippable (is there such a word)
Find a wise friend with a Mac and get them to rip it for you.

But don't rip to MP3

I-Tunes' MP3 encoder is terrible, so have your friend rip to AIFF or, preferably, WAV. Take those files back to your computer and use a good MP3 encoder like LAME.

Just FYI. You don't have to look hard to fix this.
