Opinions of DTVCity.com??
by ilikenascar - 8/31/05 2:52 PMI'm about a buy a 42" plasma (panasonic 42PX50U) from them with the 5 year Warrantech warranty. The TV price right now is $2499. Any thoughts or opinions about these guys? They are located in Atlanta, pass the Better Business Bureau test, and are an authorized Panasonic dealer. Sounds pretty good to me.....

If you don't get any on-line feedback, and you decide to buy your TV from DTVCity, I'd greatly appreciate how you liked them. I like the idea that they are an authorized dealer for Panasonic, and their return policy looks pretty good.

Do they have service techs under their name close to you that will do an in-house repair, or will one need to wrap up the plasma TV and mail it back to them? If there are Panasonic-authorized service centers close to where you live, I would contact them and inquire if they sell warranties (some do) and ask how they handle warranty calls.

Courteous professional service and the unit arrived in perfect condition 5 days after I placed my order. They are an authorized Sony dealer, I don't know about Panny, but I'd check. They are the best in the business. Real midwest integrity and courtesy (they are located in Montana).

I found out first-hand, this company is EXCELLENT!!!! From my initial inquiry about warranty support to actual order placement and order tracking, this company is TOP NOTCH. I called them about four times, and I never had to wait more than about six phone rings, for someone to assist me. (I tried other web sites to discuss plasmas, and you're lucky if they even pick up the phone to take an order). Sales rep (Brent)at DTVCity was very professional and helpful, and everything he said was accurate. I believe DTVCity is one of Panasonic's largest authorized dealers, and based on my experiece with them, I know why. When considering the overall cost (TV, extended warranty, and shipping cost), DTVCity is one of the cheapest anyway. Don't waste your time ordering from ''non-authorized'' dealers with questionable service and return policies, go directly to DTVCity. My experience with them was excellent, and I hope yours will be too. I got the basic ground shipping service (to California), and their transportation company was excellent too. Easy to contact on the phone and they have on-line tracking. Last, but not least, if you are ready to buy a HDTV off the web, I strongly suggest you go to www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com and read the article by Phil Conner, on ''How and Where to Buy a Plasma TV/Monitor / Projector /LCD TV'' in ''Buying Tips''. It is very helpful in helping to decide whether/where to buy on-line.

dishonest sales practices? You will see the prices between
the three or four different stores vary by $10 on the
inhouse price checker. They throw in Circuit City to
make it appear legit. Read the dead pixel policy...

I was attempting to help others find a good on-line store to buy a big screen TV. I spent weeks in locating a reliable source for my big screen and wanted to share my experience with others so they could benefit. Rather than slam me about being a phoney, maybe you should only talk about your experience with DTVCity (or do you have any?). Please don't slam me for wanting to help others save ~$800 by buying from a very reputable on-line company.

ONE pixel burns out? Too many fish tales for me...
The different companies IP address locations do not
match up to the listed brick and morter sites. Look
at both the reviewer's claims and my own detective work to decide for yourself.

They not only have a local number, but I've been there to do a pick-up on the screen I ordered. To clear up confusion about their policies, their warranties are serviced through warrantech, a national repair company, and their pixel policy is 1-2-3. One pixel is not covered, two centrally located pixels is generally covered, and three or more pixels anywhere on the screen are covered. They offer that level of protection because they are authorized dealers, and defective screens are bought back by the manufacturer. I've had nothing but prompt courteous service and extremely competitive pricing. I hate to see good companies get maligned when there are so many bad plasma retailers.

I purchased a panasonic 37" plasma from them in October of 2005 based upon all of the assurances and refund policies on their web site. While the sales people were somewhat helpful, they seemed to hate their jobs and were not friendly. I overlooked this, thinking that a good return/exchange policy was more important.
After placing the order on their site I called them to make sure it went through OK, but the people who handle the processing of orders were not available (at 2:30 in the afternoon?). I left a message and asked them to call me back, but they day ended without a call (their voicemail greeting told me that they would call back by 6pm, but this did not happen). The next day I left another message at 9:30am for the customer service people, and at noon I still had no call back. I then called my credit card company to see if the charge went through, and they said that they had put a hold on the card earlier in the morning, and dtvcity was supposed to call them to confirm the purchase (this is very common with large purchases). dtvcity did not call them or me about this. At 1:00 I left another message for them, and they finally called me back at 1:30 and told me that the TV and the stand I ordered would ship that day.
I felt better, until 5:30 when I received an e-mail telling me that my TV had shipped WITHOUT my stand, and that the stand would be sent when it was back in stock. I pictured myself propping my brand new TV up with some pillows, and I was not happy. Why wasn't I called and told that it was not in stock before the TV shipped? I called and tried to cancel my order, but I was told that it had already shipped and they asked me why I was mad about the stand. What nerve, especially after I spent a lot of money with them. After much discussion with a very rude customer service person I finally got them to ship the stand directly from the manufacturer via 2 day fedex.
The TV and stand arrived OK, but I am very disappointed with the customer service at dtvcity. I highly recommend avoiding them and finding a better store.
