diskeeper worth the deal

So, if anybody ask me about what's the better, I give the answer: both are the same thing.
I use the RAXCO - Perfect Disk.
fragging is more than meets the eye

it also has its faults
1.) it benchmarks your drive and hardware
frag only when you notice slow performance
usually means that you have installed more than enough software to conflict with what you already have as a norm
like aol norton becomes a malicious install and hogs all your resources and contains lots of junk
i know all this from experience
attempt to take complete control of your machine as manufacturers defaults them so when ur stuck u have to contact the manufacturer
when i need to defrag i repair my xp by re-installing the OEM OS.
I never need to back my files up just repair without deleting anything,so defauts your puters for you to be absolute master admin, besides you have paid n full for the hardware. ask me any ? if i went over your heads...lol

Bench Testing does't lie!

My computer scored the highest with Perfectdisk the rest of the after market defraggers and the standard XP Windows one did show much improvement all. With a Note: the first time using PefectDisk it might take a couple of hours but its only a one time deal for this is the result of SmartPlacement, This is Raxco's patented file placement scheme used by PerfectDisk to place the files on your disk. Files are organized by there creation and modified dates. But hey I'm sure some people would point out another 3rd party defragger but I challenge all to surf online to look at test results and look at Raxco website on their test results in which hasn't been challenged yet by any other companies. As my test included no other defraggers had improvent except for Pefectdisk which scored an extra 80 point resulting at least 50% better in disk speed the test was done with sandra bench test and pc tools on line. The difference in Windows standard and Diskeeper is just speed in defraggering otherwise they just use a faster engine plus able to defrag memory but no difference in performance. Plus I notice that alot of defraggers messed up my system files(meta) in which PerfectDisk cured that. About Norton speed disk well lets put it this way "time has past for that", if anybody uses that program make sure to have a day for it to do its work...lol.

by abobble2 - 10/15/05 4:43 PM In reply to: Bench Testing does't lie! by thegame102why would you want speed for defragging.... i set mine to defragging and continue with other things unrelated to the computer. such as sleep or tv when i come back/or awake it is usually done.. and norton would certainly not ever find a cluster on my computer.... i want to be in control of the computer. and not have to contend with norton spreading itself throughout your computer.... the add and remove programs cannot completely remove it. then you are stuck with all kinds of flags and warnings, anything that is associated with the name norton on it stays out of my computers.

These tests will tell you everything you never knew about your system. Defrag with your fav defragger and test. Now defrag with Diskeeper. Look at the performance section for hard drives. The tests will even tell you precisely how fragmented your drives are, as well as what percentage of useless files are on it.
Then see if you see no improvement.
This site is primarily for gamers, who want the absolute fastest system they can get. Toward that end, they run these tests which point out unnecessary CPU loads due to programs running automatically in the background, the whole works. A very cool site. It will tell you lots of things about your puter that you can change to improve performance.

Windows XP Defrag utility is based on a licensed version of a commercial defrag engine that should remain nameless. Norton Speed Disk does not offer the options that would make it truly flexable. I use PerfectDisk v7.0 on a regular basis. It is supurb in it's flexability and stability. It is not expensive and it's operation is safe.

It does not slow down your computer, as it uses IRQ routing to allow the cpu to do its thing efficiently, and it uses them in a manner that is seamless and non-interrupting. Set it and forget it. It has speeded up my dial-up connection tremendously, although dial-up is not all that I use. This is just a little way to prove Perfects destorys the competition hands down. If someone wants even more prove, use a Bench testing program. And yes agree Diskeeper is a better defragger then standard XP and Norton but don't be suprise after doing some test you'll find Diskeeper didn't do such a great job as expected. I'll even put this out, to me diskeeper is a high performance Xp standard defragger. Even I after doing several passes with each defrag program I found that Diskeeper even degrade performance.

I can't say anything about Perfect as I have never heard of it. But I can say that once I bought the full version of Diskeeper, I was really quite happy with it's peformance. My speed is faster than anyone that I know. Most of them just use the free sample version.

But upon seeing the name Perfect bantered about as the best defragger, I went to the Raxco site and downloaded the trial version.
I took a partition which is 70% full including Win XP and programs that gets fragmented quickly.
I made three passes with Perfect, including an off-line boot pass. I then analyzed the partition with Perfect and found that 118 fragmented files remained. I defragged with Perfect once more, making a total of four passes.
Analyzing again showed 117 slightly fragmented files.
I analyzed it with Diskeeper 7.0, which showed roughly the same results. I then defragged once with Diskeeper and analyzed the partition. There were zero fragmented files.
I closed Diskeeper and opened Perfect and ran another analyzation. Perfect showed the same results as Diskeeper!
I am not married to anyone's software, but I DO want the best for my computer. I believe I gave Perfect more than ample opportunity to defrag my partition.
When one pass with Diskeeper cleaned up what Perfect failed to accomplish in four passes, and BOTH programs showed the same results when they analyzed it, I know for a fact that Diskeeper outperformed Perfect, even with a two year old version which doesn't have all the bells and whistles.
Like they say, the proof is in the pudding. The only way I could have been certain which program is the best was to have ran them both side by side.
Maybe next year, Perfect.
Incidentally, I once was a firm believer in Norton. I have had two different desktops so screwed up by Norton that I ultimately reformatted each one and removed Norton. One was a fairly new install of Windows just over two years ago. I called Microsoft and spoke to their techs on the phone, describing step by step what I had done. The tech told me the biggest favor I could do for myself would be reformat the drive, reinstall Windows, and throw Norton away.
I could not be paid to install a Norton product on any of my four computers.
Curious did you use the SmartPlacement defragmentation.

This will provide the most complete defragmentation possible, and slowdown re-fragmentation of your drive.
Just curious if you have done the above first. When I've done what was required by both programs,My machine said perfectdisk left 9 fragmented while my Diskeeper left over 66,000 almost same result that Raxco test showed. And for people that want to know these are the full versions of PerfectDisk 7.0 and Diskeeper 9.0 both are updated. But all in all the battle of defraggers will go on until Websites start to show actual bench testing and other test this is the result of politics in the software world after all if you buy a car like a lot of us, we pick up a magazines and read what test results are. We all would benefit if it was done that way.
