AC-3 output from Soundcard jack to Home Theater decoder

by dijitul - 10/12/05 1:15 AM

I have a soundcard which has an AC-3 output in the form of a headphone jack (it also supports a configuration that allows three jacks to be used for 6-channel output).

I would like to connect it to my home theater decoder, but I don't know the best way to connect them up. The inputs on my home theater include optical, 5.1 RCA-type jacks, a digital coaxial, as well as some regular stereo RCA inputs.

The soundcard is a Turtle Beach Voyetra Santa Cruz (from a Dell) and the receiver is an Onkyo HT-S780.

Any suggestions on a cable / coverter / adapter / configuration?

No, unfortunately the sound card does not have a coaxial jack. If it did have one, I think the obvious solution to my problem would be connecting coax to coax. But, maybe there's a cable to connect the "versa" jack to the coax input of my tuner. Anybody know of one?

ah.... the versajack

You can use the versajack to output a digital audio signal to your home theatre system... given that you have a coax digital in on your receiver. In the turtle beach control panel, be sure to set your versajack to 'digital out'.

To connect the versajack to the coax input on your receiver: use an 1/8-to-coax stereo splitter in the versajack, and take a single coax cable from one of the channels on the splitter to the coax-digital-in on your receiver. (I cannot remember exactly if it is the right or left which will be carrying the digital signal, you'll have to try both.)

Let me know how you fare.
