Is it true that I can't play xbox/ps on the plasma?

by Mperor - 10/11/05 2:22 PM

Because of the burn-in? I want a 50'+ flat screen and I do play xbox regularly. People told me not to buy the plasma due to the burn-in; however, I have also heard otherwise. The LCD is so $$$ and doesn't come bigger than 40's. So, is it save to buy the plasma? I don't want to spend like a couple grands and than have to replace it. TIA

No, this is not true. Burn-in occuring on a plasma is not any different than burn-in that can occur on a regular TV. Don't leave a still image on for very long, and make sure the bright colors are not too bright.

Video games tend to have text or other images printed in a single location on the screen, thus it can lead to burn-in if left for too long, but this isn't any different than on a normal TV. Don't spend hours and hours playing the same game, or be sure to turn down the brightness to the minimal needed (this reduces or even eliminates the "cooking" of pixels). Any ghost images that appear will quickly disappear if you just watch some regular TV for a while, or shut off the screen.

Burn-in occurs because of extended exposure of bright (read: heat) energy to the pixels.

Enjoy!

Here's what I read. -> LAG

Some big screens have a noticable LAG that makes game play impossible. That is, on a normal TV you press the fire button and in milliseconds you see the response. Some of these sets add some 1/2 second delay induced by their video processing system.

Yes!!! LCD computer monitors list the responce time in milli-seconds, most gamers say it has to be 16ms or less.
Many HDTVs do not list this spec. as it maybe rather long time.
I installed a large LCD 5200ansi lumin projector, the projector cost $9000 and is realy a super projector,,,execpt for the lag,,,, To corect the lipsync problem I had to put a digital delay in the audio system.
Which is why they don't recomend them for gaming.
FYI LCDs can burnin, OK it does take a very long time, but it can happen. John

16mS, even double is nothing compared to the 100+ mS...

The time or lag I'm noting is not the LCD response time. It's the video processor in said units inducing lag as they improve the image. You'll see other posts about mismatches in A/V sync when the owner pipes audio to their audio system and not through the tv.
