Can't Open Firefox

by rojanack - 10/5/05 10:37 PM

I have to use Firefox in order to access my Hotmail account. For some reason, IE won't allow me in.

I've started to get the following error message when trying to open Firefox: "The program must close to allow a previous installation attempt to complete. Please restart".

I don't know what this is telling me. I haven't installed anything.

Any idea what I have to do in order to get Firefox to work again?

Thanks for any and all help.

Close Firefox

Firefox sometimes doesn't close down properly even though it appears to have done. This might cause trouble such as described. Perhaps give the following a try:

With Firefox closed, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the Task Manager. Can you see an entry for firefox.exe? If so, choose to 'End Task' and then try opening Firefox again.

Have you installed the Firefox preloader? If so, try running with it disabled (or uninstall it). The preloader stops FF from closing down completely.

Just noting.

My wife's machine had some issue with Firefox. I looked and it was an OLD VERSION. So I uninstalled it, then reinstalled it. Rebooted and it works now. I didn't bother to figure why it did that.

Bob, ditto for me. Also Thunderbird email. Mozilla chages and updates all the time. On my Mac it is 1.5.
Others on a PC may see 1.7 and 1.9.
Thank God it is FREE. And wonderful to use!
On their website I view donate to the Mozilla Foundation.
How many of us chip in and send them a donation?
I have not so far. May send them a small amount of $10. Not a large donation by any means.
Mozilla is wonderful to use. Beats Microsoft and also the Mac Safari browers. Just my thoughts.

Thanks, Jacob. Deleting the xpicleanup.dat file did the trick. I can now open FF.
