Have INTEL, but badly want AMD!!

by ikjadoon - 9/21/05 4:22 PM In reply to: What kind of CPU runs your computer? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Got a Socket 478 P4 2.8Ghz that I bought about 5 years ago, and still is blazing fast. Amazed!! I've heard many many good reviews on AMD processors, but sadly have never used one. I'd really like to test it out. All these newer machines, from eMachines to Overdrive have switched their top of the line to AMD's and I'm sure they have a good reason. I don't how AMD does it, but it does it well. AMD all the way!!

4 machines run Athlon 64 3500+ on A8NSLI-Premium
1 P4 3.2 overclocked to 3.52 on P4P800-E 865 chipset
1 P4 2.4 on ASUS LF3500 Laptop
1 P4 2.4 on MSI 845 PE II Max

Note: The ASUS/Nvidia NForce4 Chipset Boards and Athlon 64 CPUs are rock killer solid overclocked & running 24/7 heavy multimedia work and never break a sweat. Athlon 64 are cool...

What type of CPU in my box(es)

by dave_vigus - 9/25/05 2:10 PM In reply to: What kind of CPU runs your computer? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Intel 3.2GHz, Northwood core, socket 478 =

less heat than the newer Prescott's, and surprisingly,

they still cost more than the newer, non-socket 478

chips = go figure.

As a side note, I use ASUS mainboards in all of my

winXP boxes. -david 25sept2K5

AMD - Athlon and Sempron

by jd7wilson - 11/1/05 11:26 PM In reply to: What kind of CPU runs your computer? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I have Athlon XP 2000 on my computer. I put Athlon 1300 on my parents' computer and Sempron 2800 on my sister's computer.

I'm not an uber geek, so the performance differences between AMD and Intel are not apparent to me. I do know that most gamers rate AMD higher than Intel, but that's not the reason I use AMD. AMD is more affordable than Intel. Unless Intel gets more reasonable with their prices, I'm not likely to use an Intel processor again.
