What

happens if you can't afford a Mac? It's one thing if that's all you've ever used, but if you're broke (or near to it) and all you want to do is repair your machine, then there's no way on earth would I even CONSIDER offering such advice.

Kill messenger!

by phrubin - 9/23/05 9:52 AM In reply to: Windowns messenger really annoys me... by trimakichan

I have found that Outlook and other MS applications cause Messenger to run at startup. Not having the patience to find all these, I simply renamed the file by changing msmsgs.exe to msmsgs.ex.

So far, there have been no problems.

sometimes this causes Outlook Express to open very slowly -- like for over a minute -- while it looks for its buddy, MSN Messenger.

MSN removing this pain.

by onsitepc - 9/23/05 5:20 PM In reply to: Windowns messenger really annoys me... by trimakichan

click on start run and paste in this string:
drag your mouse over the whole string 'till it highlites then hit "c" while holding down the ctrl key - this will copy it exactly. to paste, left click in the run box and hit ctrl and v at the same time this will paste it, click okay and ignore any MS warnings- it took me one year to find this fix and only ten seconds to do it!
i always carry a copy with me on my house calls.
Here it is:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

2)then go for-tools-options-preferences
then you can disable your Windows Messenger running at window start.

This will work for getting them to icon stage when go to OutLook. And that did not irrate me but last night my son who does Tech work told me how to get rid of the icon even This is XP Home, it maybe different in others Click Start--settings--Control Panel- Administration Tools- Double Click Services--Scroll down and highlight Messenger--Right click the high lighted line and choose properties. Click stop button--Select Disable or Manual on Start up--type scroll bar Click okay and you shouldn't see those icons again--they been gone from mine 15 hours now.

Windows Messenger 4.0 or later on XP Pro

by jayRwv - 10/7/05 6:21 AM In reply to: Windowns messenger really annoys me... by trimakichan

I found this method to stop windows messenger from appearing when I startup my computer.
1- click Start, click Run, then type gpedit.msc and then press ENTER.
2- Double-click the followings to expand (or click the +)
3- Double click on the option "Do not allow Windows Messenger to run", and then click ENABLED.
4- Click OK, then close the window.

It did work for me. Other methods I tried did not. It is for Windows XP Pro only.
