I got an AMD64 2800+, and AMD XP 2400+, and Dual Pentium II 266's
I have a AMD 64 bit 3700 on a ASUS K8N Mother Board and love it.
I currently have two computers. Both run Intel P4's. One is a 2.8 and the other is a 3.2 Ghz. I wish atleast one of them ran an AMD since I am into gaming, but for now the intels work fine.
I have two systems. My personal system (home-built) is run by an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (@ 2Ghz) on an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard. My work system (provided by work) is run by an Intel P4 2.8Ghz on an Intel D865GBF motherboard.
I prefer the AMD system, as it appears to run much faster, despite what the clock speeds would indicate.
I am waiting for the prices to drop a little more so I can put an AMD Athlon 64 X2 CPU in my personal system.
Intel Pentium 4 1.6GHz
On my third home-built computer. Every one has been AMD.
The one I just built uses a 3200+ (2.0 MHz). It's 64 bit but not dual core (can't afford that until prices start dropping) plugged into an ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe mobo and running Windows XP Pro. Along with 500 Gb of hard disk storage, I think this will keep me amused for at least the next 6 months!
the processor clocks out at 1.8Ghz (held back by the motherboard:( (ChaintechVNF4/ULTRA Zenith series) ). I currently have only one 64 bit operating system (ubuntu 5.04release). It does run pretty good, but I do have some trouble with glitches. I have also tried the trial verson of the Windows XP 64 bit operating system. The o.s. installed very nicley . . . but once I logged in, I could not take two steps without something crashing. I think I'll wait for the update version. Any suggestions on good motherboards that will make the processor fly?
i have several PC's
One AMD Athlon XP 2800+
One AMD Athlon XP 2500+
One AMD K6-3 500 OC'd to 633mhz
(fun project did long time ago, please don't ask how ;))
One Intel Celeron 1.8 GHz
One Intel Celeron 1.4 GHz (Powerleap adapter in dell)
XP machines are Game boxes running xp pro
k6 is a server running win 2003
cel 1.8 is wifes PC
cel 1.4 is another server
Ive used several procs from both camps today (except the c3 from via)here is my experience:
you want to game? use an AMD Athlon series processors
you need a number cruncher? intel Pentium
not heavy into graphics or games? AMD Sempron(Duron) or intel Celeron will do
every one seems to have thier own opinion, this is mine. ![]()
I am running AMD Anthon 2500 (1.8gig). It does what I need to do.
Celeron is great, but not as great as celentrino. that is much better than pentium M. But i do say, i am interested in a pentium D, with all of its features, but i am fine with Celeron. want to upgrade to latest Me upgrade, cause it sucks, it is the worst program microsoft ever made, has a bad firewall, easy to hack, so i do not have interbet on it, but use computers at school.freezes all the time, but thats computers for u.
I answered other because I have Macs and PCs and as such am not tied down to one processor brand. My family's first computer was a Tandy 1000 (not sure which model)with a 8 mhz Intel 8088. Our family's second computer was a Gateway P5-90 which had a bad motherboard we had to get replaced and the hard drive died a day after the warranty ran out. Gateway refused to replace it. My first computer was a 386 in a AT case I bought at a Boy Scout computer swap and gutted it saving only the power supply, floppy drive, and case itself. I installed a PC Chips m571 3.2 A motherboard into the case with onboard sound and video, 64 MB of RAM, and a Cyrix MII 300 processor and ran Winows 98 on it (not Win98 SE; didn't exist back then). Installing that combination of motherboard and processor was the worst decision I ever made as it was very unstable and I ended up blowing two power supplies (each 200 watts). The floppy drive also eventually gave out and had to be replaced. Even the nice 14'' Panasonic SVGA monitor failed after about two to three years of usage. After that I did my homework and researched more carefully. My second system was home built (even new case)and used a FIC AZ-ll motherboard and AMD Duron 600 mhz. After about two to three years I finally gave in and upgraded to a system using a Shuttle AK36GT2 motherboard and AMD Athlon XP 1700+ with 256 MB of RAM though the Duron based system was quite stable. For whatever odd reason the motherboard's AGP slot cracked and I never attempted to get it replaced under warranty as it may have been my fault. The Athlon XP 1700+ has been migrated to a Abit motherboard (I forget which) and is now running Debian Sarge Linux installed from a DVD-ROM (I only have disc one). My other PC is a Toshiba Libretto 110CT. I know it uses Intel but I bought it merely because of how cute it is. I also have six Macs; a refurbished Rev A iMac G5 1.8 GHz with two matching 256 MB DDR memory sticks and a SuperDrive which I upgraded to Tiger, a refurbished 12'' PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz with 768 MB of RAM and a Combo drive running Tiger, I used to own the original eMac with 256 MB of RAM and Combo Drive (it now belongs to my parents), a Mac Performa 200/Classic II with maxed out RAM running Mac OS 7.5.5, a Mac LC 580 upgraded to a 33 mhz 68040 running Mac OS 7.5.5 (soon to be upgraded to Mac OS 7.6.1), a Mac Performa 405/LC II with maxed out RAM and VRAM running Mac OS 7.5.5, and a Power Mac 7600/132 upgraded to a Sonnet Tech Crescendo G3 500 mhz with 512 MB of RAM (four interleaved 128 MB modules out of eight slots). The Power Mac 7600/132 has also been upgraded with a ATI Radeon 9200 128 MB PCI card and a Adaptec AVA-2906 SCSI card since the onboard external SCSI is slow and I plan to add a bigger ATA-133 hard drive and a Sony DVD burner (I forget the model number)using a Sonnet Tech Tempo Trio ATA-133/Firewire/USB combo card and run Tiger on it using XPostFacto. The Mac LC 580 and Mac Performa 200 were given to me by a IT Department admin where I work since they only use PCs.
I recently installed an Intel Pentium 4, 2.26 GHz processor. very reliable, no overheating
A four year old Intel P4 1.7ghz.
My CPU is an Intel 2.8GHz Dual Core Processor. It allows me to multi-task at such fast speeds, that there really is no difference in performance in running 4+ programs at once to just running one, not to mention all the programs running in the background.
I'm running an AMD 2800+ XP, excellent proccesor, it runs very cool, fast, reliable, cheap, i love it.
I'm the owner of a computer store that services client's machines, sells hardware & software, i allways recomend AMD procesors, don't missunderstand me, Intel's are good procesors too, but hoter & more expensive than AMD's.
