Death

by Lloved - 9/13/05 7:04 PM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

No, I'm not kidding. There is nothing redeemable about these criminals. It's not like they're writing viruses to feed their families. Their only motivation is to cause destruction on a large scale, which makes them as terrorists in my book.

prison

After having to deal with these b****** for the past few years, on a medium sized network, they should be sentenced and fined. Punishment based on approximately how many computer systems they have infected, say five years for every 100 systems infected, and fined for total monetary compensation to companies affected.

The only fitting punishment

by scayf - 9/13/05 7:05 PM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Drag 'em out to the middle of the street by their hair (pubic or otherwise) and shoot them point-blank in the face.

One month for every infected PC

by NoRest4wkd - 9/13/05 7:12 PM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I think the punishment should fit the crime, and jail time is definitely appropriate. They should get an amount of time equivalent to the damage, so one way would be to give them a (insert measure here, example: month) for each infected PC.

Proper punishment

by mattkenseth17 - 9/13/05 7:13 PM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I voted for imprisonment, but exile seems more suitable, considering the extent of their crimes. Keep these people as far away from civilization as possible.

Restitution and time

by - 9/13/05 7:14 PM In reply to: What punishment should be handed down to virus creators? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Harder crimes gets less time than what has been suggested.
Seizer of property (mothers home) like a drug dealer. Time on a scale of cost. Then there is parole where the person can be tracked by the cyber group and easily brought in on any suspicions.

virus creation - no small crime

by mikeTheBike - 9/15/05 2:40 PM In reply to: Restitution and time by

The big outbreaks of viruses have cost enormous resources. Probably billions world-wide.
Maybe thousands are no longer alive because of less funding available.
If 10000 people die in Africa due to less available funding because a virus outbreak - should 500 hours of community service be enough punishment - I doubt it...

It seems fair to put virus creation into the severe terrorist category.
