Sound quality

by - 9/12/05 7:14 AM In reply to: Nice assumptions??? by bigmc6000

The I-Pod and I-Pod Mini have really pathetic bass response due to the use of capacitors in the headphone output that just aren't big enough. The Shuffle had this fixed by using a push/pull transistor circuit or something.

seen it, nice design, but for the price...

by MusicPhan - 11/9/05 7:15 PM In reply to: Nice assumptions??? by bigmc6000

I've seen and listened to one, and it is extremly small, nice design. Main turnoff for me is the price, i got a 20 gig. iRiver for 260, but that's like comparing apples and oranges. It's like every other apple player, great design. But being apple it's pricey and poor battery life and sound quality. But if you only want a cool looking flash player and have money to burn, it's nice.

PS-I heard that Apple was having major problems with the screens breaking. Don't know of a case personally, but i only know one kid with a nano.

Get a life, better yet get a Nano Pod!!!!

by ThePreacherMan - 9/12/05 10:18 PM In reply to: Not Worth it by MusicPhan

Went to the Apple store tonight and experienced it first hand which many of you haven't based on your comments. It is simply a work of art and worth every penny. Why? Have you priced a one Gig flash Card lately, much less a two Gig? I own a mini Ipod, a schuffle and now soon I will purchase the Nano. The pics are a bit small but beautiful none the less. And I can put my contacts and calendar on it as well. The thing is so darn light that you don't realize that it is in your hand.

Lamest Comparison

by FroZone - 9/13/05 2:42 PM In reply to: before you buy ipod ..... this look at the mobiblu dah 1500i by max-9

Why I Should NOT Look at the Mobiblu:
1. "Thin" is in - not a cube sticking out of my pocket.
2. I think 4GB is a bit better than 1GB.
3. If you don't care about radio, it's a non-feature.
4. The Nano has an equalizer
5. Audio special effects??
6. Just because you own a Mobiblu doesn't mean it's the best.

Im sorry ..... you seem to be upset?

by max-9 - 9/13/05 3:48 PM In reply to: Lamest Comparison by FroZone

1) the cube hangs around your neck from the earphone cables , its not to put in your pocket
2)I think 30 gb is better than 4gb ..thats why i have the x5l
3) i do care about the radio...its a plus
4)the mobiblu has a 5 band "user adjustable" graphic equalizer ...and srs....and wow...
5)the mobiblu can drag n drop files
6)Listen to the sound volume and quality of the mobiblu ...does it sound better?
7)I really dont care what you buy ..or what i own...its just an opinion , believe me if the nano is a better player I will buy the nano also..I got $$$$$ and I spend it. I dont fall in love with these toys , I just love to play with them.

Lamer than Lamest Comparison

by FroZone - 9/13/05 5:00 PM In reply to: Im sorry ..... you seem to be upset? by max-9

1. Too bad the cube is not to put in your pocket.
2. And 60GB iPod is better than 30GB...you were saying...
3. You care about radio...good for you.
4. If you are constantly adjusting the equalizer, and SRS, and Wow, be my guest.
5. Dragging and dropping is better than...
6. No
7. I think you do care what you own.

Let's stick to comparing apples with apples. (No pun intended)

Wonderful Flash Player, Below Average mp3 Player

by masterzen - 9/13/05 5:18 PM In reply to: Is iPod nano worth buying? by thefarseer

Overall I think this is a good player that is worth the money, but I will not buy one for several reasons.

All ipods are WAY overrated because they do nothing more than play average quality music with average to below average battery life. You can get a player that is just as good with video capabilities, a FM tuner, Voice/FM recording, and better battery life for the same price of an ipod 20GB 5th Generation. The Nano is the same way. You can get better players for the same or less cash. As for the flash being better for working out, I have seen many people running, biking, and doing other physical activities with ipods and other hard drive players and they don't skip or anything.

Many other players also have a lot better sound quality that the ipod too. Another quality that the ipods (including Nano, I'm not trying to shy away from the product in consideration) lack is gapless playback. I listen to saveral bands where this is an issue, but one example is Relient K's song "College Kids" on the album "Two Lefts Don't Make a Right...But Three Do". THe song ends and then cresendo's (builds in volume, for you folks not educated in music terms) into the next song ("Trademark"). I hate to have a player on and have it build up the volume into silence for a second or two ad then continue on into the next song. It is very annoying.

My advice is to take 50 dollars more and buy a Sony Network Walkman NW-HD5 and get 16 more GB of space, better sound quality, and a G-sensor so if your physical activity gets to where it may damage the device it will inform you by turning off so you don't damage it.

For you Folks Not Educated in Music Terms

by FroZone - 9/13/05 5:30 PM In reply to: Wonderful Flash Player, Below Average mp3 Player by masterzen

"Cresendo" is spelled "crescendo".

Also, any physical activity with a HDD-based player MIGHT cause the music to skip, and WILL lower battery life.

#2. iTunes can be set to remove gaps between tracks.

#3. What exactly is "average quality" music?

Post 27 of 46

hmm......

by masterzen - 9/19/05 6:31 PM In reply to: For you Folks Not Educated in Music Terms by FroZone

#1. Sorry my spelling was a little off, but I've never had to spell "crescendo" because I always write/read it as "<".

Physical activity "MIGHT" cause it to skip, but from all the people whom I have seen run with HDD-based players, I have never heard them complain of it skipping. As for battery life, you got me there, but that's one.

#2. Really? I would love to hear how to do this as all information I have read shows no signs of gap removal.

#3. Average quality music is what you get when you plug headphones into a player and you can (or can't hear, as the case may be) hear slight imperfections in the sound (noises that aren't supposed to be there, or absent noises), even when it's on high quality. Great quality is what you get when you plug in and (even with very high quality headphones) hear VERY little or no imperfections in the sound. If you plug into an ipod with any decent headphones (ex. NOT the standard headphones) you WILL hear these imperfections, guaranteed. If you can prove me wrong, feel free, I'd love to hear it.

RE: For you folks

1) Not only will is cause the player to skip and lower battery life, but running with an HDD-based player will eventually destroy the HDD.

2) I-Tunes doesn't fix the I-Pod's inability to play tracks gaplessly; it only removes silence from the files themselves.

3) I would assume "average quality" is 128kbps.

... or the new Walkman A3000

by spotter - 11/10/05 7:02 AM In reply to: I still like sony... by watswidme

Having announced the new Walkman A3000 20GB in September, it's finally in the shops now and looks and feels brilliant. Also has new software so I prefer it to the HD5.

Apparently, they delayed the launch to tie in with their 25 Years of the Walkman Exhibition in London (starts tomorrow until Dec 9th and also features 25 years of photgraphy from the "Darker Side of Rock")
