MP3 players: Is iPod nano worth buying?

I will say that it's a bold move by Apple, replacing the well received Mini with the Nano with less capacity, however I think people will buy them because it really steps up the concept of a flash mp3 player. I believe once the price of flash memory comes down, Apple will offer a 4 gig Nano for $200, and a 6 gig Nano for $250, although that probably won't happen for another 1 to 1.5 years. Will I buy one, only if I can scrap together $250.

It has 4gb of FLASH memory @$250!? Really wish it supported either ogg or wma instead of aac but at that price I'd still take it. Much smaller than my current Sandisk Sensa(1gb+2gb SD card). The card and player cost me $240 for 3gb and a much bigger player. Still, the Sensa operates on a single AAA battery for quite along while. Apple players have had battery issues before so I may wait until I see some battery life reviews before making the plunge. Hope it has the audio quality of the Shuffle instead of the iPod.

Both will fit into a single pocket and I get FM and all recording modes, then a larger capacity player. If the nano works with the camera connector, then it may be the best combo in the world.

Now we have an overpriced but very stylish ipod nano. What's great is the style and design that have always accompanied Apple's products. What's not is the unusual headphone jack at the bottom, the battery life (would expect more from a flash player), and the price (2more gigs for the ipod mini). All in all, if you have an iPod Mini and are happy with it, don't rush out to get this one.

Mainly, the AC adapter must be purchased separately if you ever want to charge the Nano w/o a computer. When considering that, you are up to $280. You can get the 30GB Photo for $310. The size is amazing. You pay a big price in my view. I just have always had 20GB versions of all 5 of my players and am not about to go to 4GB.

Eventually, Apple is going to have color screens for all their iPods, making the desirability factor for this Nano low. Also, given its size, there's also the consideration of "losing" the Nano when it's on a cluttered desk. While it may be compared to a No. 2 pencil, how many times have one broken a pencil? I'm sure the Nano is far less breakable, so that's another thing to consider.

This is a huge step for Apple since they are 1) replacing their most successful iPod and 2) putting the bar up that much higher (as they always seem to do just as the competition gets ready to make their rebuttle.) I'd say that the headphone jack placement is odd but if you have the lanyard it really makes it perfect since you can pull it up and look at it as opposed to if it were on top (the turn and look is then required.) Most will complain about prices compared to the mini but another reminder folks - this ia a flash player. To add to that it's the only 4 GB flash player on the market. So overall - I'd say yes get one if you don't already have a mini or shuffle so you can use this little gem when running around. Otherwise - wait for the 6GB model or maybe a price drop (don't forget - students get a nice little 10% discount at the official apple store...)
One more thing - FM tuners are completely overrated - I had one once and it was quite possibly the most useless thing ever...

Even though it's flash, I know many people who run with HD players and it fine. If you already have a player, don't be in a hurry to get this...between the weak battery, and possibly weak sound quality, not a big hit in my mind.

As for the weak battery and "possibly weak sound quality" I'm glad you're making these assumptions without even seeing or testing it. The rated battery life (from all indications of people who actually have it) is less than what you actually get - one reviewer got 20 hours. And the possibly weak sound quality??? What in the world are you basing that on? You don't like Apple so you make up stuff or what? It's a little expensive compared to HD players but the price lines up right with the rest of the market for flash players - that and theren't any other 4GB flash players on the market. For a flash it's amazing - put all those features into such a small package, color screen, photos, click wheel - that's just astounding. It's certainly a huge step in terms of being fully featured but yet impossibly small - kudos to apple for upping the ante on the mp3 player market yet again.
