Good Photo editing software

by lrivas1 - 8/12/05 12:55 PM In reply to: Good photo editing software anyone? by meeah2005

I found that Adobe Photoshop Elements will meet your criteria. I use it with all my digital photos and they provide functions that are automatic (ex: auto color correction, auto contrast, red eye removal, etc.) and others that require more manual manipulation (ex: removing unwanted background, or removing unwanted wringles, etc.).

The price is reasonable and it is possible to buy a student copy with all the features and save more if you can provide proof. My version came with a free copy of Adobe Photo Album which allows you to classify and store your photos, etc.

Photo editing software

by jsproull - 8/13/05 12:02 PM In reply to: Good photo editing software anyone? by meeah2005

I've used photoshop thru 5.5 and many other editing programs until I settled on ArcSoft PhotoStudio. This program does much of what Photoshop will do, but to a lesser degree. It is much easier to learn...
I'm still using PhotoStudio 2000, but planning to upgrade soon.

Check "GIMP"

by hhdawrs - 8/13/05 12:07 PM In reply to: Good photo editing software anyone? by meeah2005

Google GIMP and see what you think. It's a free download and I saw good reports last year comparing it favorably with high-end expensive programs.

I poked around it a bit, but not enough to judge it.

Take a look at PhotoFiltre from www.photofiltre.com and also look for tutorials on a separate page.

Tip: To find all your pictures, use Picasa2, also free.

my vote

I have tried most all of the free stuff that comes with cameras, scanners, video cards, ect...but always return to the old free ''SE'' version of Paint Shop Pro...it has plenty of power to dig deep, has an airbrush, color correction, and can even clone, using a pretty neat cloning tool. The purchased version could only be better, if you wanted to purchase a good program.

If the free version of Paint Shop Pro wont open a particular file type you are using, use the free program ''Irfanview'' to convert your photos to JPG.

Irfanview is a very powerful program itself, good for slide shows, mass file rename and file type conversion, and some mild editing editing. Check it out.

I downloaded Picasa2 from Google and like it much better thatn the Kodak stuff I got with my easyshare camera. It's much more user friendly and lets me use my own ISP to send pictures by e-mail. Thanks for the hint.

MS Digital Image Suite 2006

by PlatinumXP - 8/31/05 9:44 PM In reply to: Good photo editing software anyone? by meeah2005

I recently started using MS Digital Image Suite 2006, and have been pleasntly surprised. It has all the bases covered in so far as everyday tool requirements go, and also has some pretty cool improvements on the previous version e.g. black & white features and the auto cropping tool. For my money it is very good, works well (and fast) with XPsp2, has a good and easy to use library, and keeps the overall look of XP ui, which keeps the learning of new software to a minimum while alowing productivity to quickly come up to speed.
Cheers, Andrew.
