Get a Mac!

by tomh - 4/5/05 3:26 PM In reply to: So...should i get a 2nd drive? by onlyandrea

Just about any new Mac, like the new iMac, will do what you are needing. Everything is built into it. iMovieHD will import and edit the video via firewire from a miniDV camera.

iDVD will create the DVD from iMovie.

Just make sure you get a mac with the superdrive.

To decide on how big a hard drive to get, keep in mind that every 5 minutes of raw video takes about a gigabyte of space.

And if you want to be able to do more than iMovie will do you can get Finial Cut Express $300 and edit 4 lines of video in HD . John

It's easy for others because they have newer machines.

Perhaps you should look for a low end HP machine that is configured for media, but try to get it with a second 100+gig drive.

DVD vs MINI DV.

At this point in time the DVD cameras are still lacking in overall quality, maybe next years models will be better. But TODAY Mini DV is still the better choice!!!
You haven't said how much you can spend on a camera, but you PC is on the small size. Her are a coupls of links. John

and its MUCH easier than trying it on a PC. All you need is iMovie, your DV cam & a VCR. Look here: http://www.macworld.com/2004/05/features/fromvhstodvd/index.php
