I'm looking for a notebook for school, I'm considering the Dell Inspiron 600m or the Inspiron 6000. My main concern is that I've heard horror stories about Dell notebooks having massive hardware problems. Does anyone have any experience with either of these regarding their reliabiliity?
I don't have experience with the Inspiron 600m or 6000, but none of the people I know who own Dell notebooks has had any problems with them.
Because of performance issues, I wouldn't recommend the 600m. The 6000 is quite heavy, so beware.
Do you require a Dell, or would you like to save some cash and go with a cheaper and faster non-Dell notebook?

I was just wondering how reliable those 2 models were, because my friends asked me for advice on them, and I don't have experience with either, but have heard some bad things about them (at least the 600m). For me personally, it doesn't have to be Dell, because I'm a little worried about the bad rep they have with notebooks. I'm somewhat interested in the Gateway m250x, but I haven't been able to find any in-depth reviews on it.
I'm not sure how you could go terribly wrong with any notebook from Dell, which is one of the top PC manufacturers in the nation.
I found a review for the Gateway M250XL on PC magazine. It's essentially no different from the M250X. Check it out:

You could also go to other brand-name manufacturers' Web sites and take a look at their laptop lineups.

I'd suggest the HP compaq alternative as they have fewer problems and a wider variety lineup. you don't have to worry abt the brand name. and they don't cost a fortune like the dells. they are good performers too. i am an X Dell user, currently a Compaq user. models comparable to the 600m and the 700m are the hp ze2000t, dv 4000 , dv 1000 and the compaq v4000 and v2000 inthe intel line up. available in HP compaq are the formidable AMD models like the v2000z, m2000z, r4000 in compaq and zv6000, ze2000z models from HP.
