The latest update of Zone Alarm Free caused my computer to crash. For a week I have been trying to figure out the errors in my irq and ndis.sys. I was on the verge of redoing my computer after searching websites and finally buying software in hopes of fixing the problem. When I read about the problems with the Pro version I figured ZA was my problem. Thankfully I did not update the other computers in our house. In the back of my head I wondered about ZA because my problem started shortly after installing it.
Do you know what version your latest update was ?
I thought this trouble may have just been for the Pro version.
Would be interesting to see if any other free versions were having the same trouble too.
I think it might be wise to keep an eye on this thread, and not update until more positive comments are made or a solution found.
I for one will stick with Zone Alarm free and as I have no problems at this stage will leave mine well alone. And not update for now.
I hope you are able to get your computer back up and running smooth again.

I upgraded to this latest update, and I too get more warning pop up windows, but that is not really my problem. First, whenever Windows starts I get this message "No antivirus is running. Would you like to turn on ZoneAlarm Antivirus?" I click Yes and check "Never display this message again". And yet, the message keeps coming back every single time. Also, sometimes all the Intetnet apps become locked and I have to disable ZoneAlarm to have Internet access.
By the way, editing the registry will also cause popup messages.
If you look on your tray, you'll see a LOCK icon which, if closed, you will not be able to access the internet OR open your browser. In my post above, I mentioned this. So all you have to do is click on it once and the lock will open. This drove me crazy until I opened it. Not too much about the lock in the help center.
I also had problems attempting to apply this upgrade. I continually received True Vector errors. The upgrade never completed. Worse I was locked out of the internet & taken to a Zone Labs problem page. After following the instructions I still had the same issues. Their final solution was to fax them & they would answer in the order it was received. I removed the product from my laptop, activated the Windows firewall & contacted Zone Labs for a refund. I had just extended the product by 2 years. They agreed to issue the refund.
I have already upgraded and thought I must not have set it up properly as I too get warnings all the time. I-Touch, Mcafee, Browsers - all cause warnings to pop up and it is still not easy to know just what is essential to my normal running mode and what might actually be a problem!

I thought I had my auto-updater turned off,too bad for me,I didn't...Turned on my PC Thursday night and have had nothing but aggravation since.Feel like my PC has been hijacked by my formerly trusted ZA.Since the update was shoved down my throat,I had to turn off my Norton incoming mail scan to even receive email-this only after the past several days of fiddling with settings, and seeking out research that this would be OK to do,because my AV program will nab anything nasty if I open an evil email(I hope!).
I originally started with ZA4.All I wanted was a nice easy firewall-I'm somewhat computer savvy, but my roomate(sorry)is a dolt. They have consistently added more stuff,it's really not just a firewall anymore, now is it?And the new alerts popping up constantly are a nightmare-what if my roomate okays malware?!Or I have to hunt down a program component I need working because she disallowed it?!Why should I have to spend a good portion of my time fiddling with settings that were perfectly usable before? And yes,the new anti-spyware works very nicely, but I don't need it-I got some that ZA sold cheap with my last license renewal!
So a good portion of last night was spent looking at new firewalls which I will need in about 180 days when my ZA runs out.Too annoyed to renew, and ZA is so bloated,I'm liking the looks of Agnitum Outpost Personal FW-which is still JUST a firewall, has low sys reqs and it's FREE to boot.I'm so tired of bloatware,I've decided to dump Norton too!Probably going to get Avast personal instead...
As users,we need to start getting ugly with these companies-they need a reminder of WHO put them where they are,and we can just as easily knock them off their pedestals!GO CONSUMERS!
I've not used any version of Zone Alarm previously. I'm considering the Zone Alarm Suite v6 (or ZA Pro v6) NOT as an upgrade but as a CLEAN install on a NEW pc WITH McAfee VirusScan ALREADY installed by the IT Department mandate so they can ''push out'' updated virus-detect signatures upon Log-On to protect their network. My understanding from Zone Lab's website and from C|NET's Review of ZA v6 is that ZA's install DETECTS where McAfee VirusScan is already on the pc and effectively DISABLES ZA's own anti-virus so that the EXISTING VirusScan can continue to operate. Any install issues or operating issues to watch out for?
concurrently is not recommended.
My only problem other than Pro 6 is a piece of junk is I purchased a 2 year subscription tlis spring. Now I have to find something else.
I did and they emailed the forms to me. I'm going to wait a bit longer to see what they do about V6 before I submit the claim.
Never go Pro when a program changes digits, that's what I always say! Version 5.X isn't but a few months old, so why jump into 6.X and pay for your woes? I use ZoneAlarm Free 6.0.667.000 and it's fine! So stick with the Free version until all the kinks are ironed out, of which I'm sure are not all as bad as the "Doom-Sayers" on this site are leading readers to believe. If they would just have uninstalled version 5.X before dumping 6.X on the heap, I'm sure their grief would subside to a trickle - but people are too lazy to sit through a reboot to uninstall the older version first. And now - WAAAAAAHH! Lucy, you got some 'splainin to do! 'Nuff said!
Works fine here from day one... but I followed recommended install procedures as you pointed out!
Glenn
I have three PC's with the new Update and all three work fine. I suspect anyone having trouble is running other anti-virus or firewalls that have not been disabled.
