Sony NW-HD5 - Clarity of sound Vs Format

by s-mac - 8/6/05 8:52 AM

Hi peeps, If any of you are familiar with the NW-HD5 then you will know about the infamous sony ATRAC bit rate compression facility.

Does anyone know which in terms of sound quality and efficient memory usage would be best. For example, Im not sure if it would be best to use sony's ATRAC3 132kbps or just stick to a standard 256kbps mp3 format?

Im quite fussy about sound quality yet want to save space. Id appreciate any views anyone has on this dilemma im having here. :-)

MP3@256kbps is better than ATRAC3@132kbps.

Atrac3 vs. Mp3

I find Atrac3 105/kbs to sound just as good as high bit rate Mp3, even Atrac3 64/kbs sounds great to me and I'm a picky listener myself. Either Atrac3 compression sounds great when i hook my sony player to my Kenwood receiver so I use 64/kbs.
