My friend has a Treo 650 and he said he is selling it for $200. But he has Verizon and the phone is verizon and I have T-mobile, I wanted to know if i could unlock it and make it work with T-mobile and how much do carriers charge to unlock the phones for you or just a estimate what it will cost..
no it wont
coz verizon uses CDMA and Tmobile GSM
so they are not compatible
Since Verizon is on a CDMA network there is no slot for the phone to have a SIM card in it which is what T-mobile and Cingular uses. Now if you're friend had Cingular then it could work because all you'd have to do is unlock the SIM. But the bottom line is Verizon = CDMA and T-Mobile = GSM different technologies
Actually, you could use it as a standalone PDA without wireless service, but I don't think that's what you had in mind.
I bought an unlocked treo 650 from T-mobile. I pulled the chip out of my older GSM phone and plugged it into the 650 and Viola! No problem. I would call T-mobile about the unlocking part. $200 is a fabulous deal for a 650. Are you sure it's not a 600?
yeah my friend showed me and it has a removable battery so it is the 650 and it is in great condition but it is verizon and what the other guys were saying at the top was that verizon is CDMA and T-mobile was GSM.
