It's eating, applying make up, shaving, reading the paper...
In short, it's anything that distracts your attention from what you're supposed to be doing. DRIVING!

kids are the biggest problem

by erniemink - 8/2/05 2:29 PM In reply to: What is the biggest threat to safe driving? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I have seen so many problems where cell phones and stereos can be problematic, but when kids are involved you are taking your eyes completely off front center and looking behind you or to the side. That makes a bigger problem. I have seen more accidents by far than with anything else including phones.

Drivers graduating from a mule or a cart to a car in weeks

by Product Developer - 8/2/05 2:31 PM In reply to: What is the biggest threat to safe driving? by Marc Bennett Moderator

In California many accidents are caused by the millions of illegals that have poured over our porous border. Most are hit and run since the driver is not only an illegal alien but uninsured as well.

know, I know, this is notpolitically correct but facts are facts.

How do they get a license?

by Nelsoneas - 11/25/05 11:47 PM In reply to: Drivers graduating from a mule or a cart to a car in weeks by Product Developer

Besides the pourous border, there's must also be some pourous driver's license examiners. From a cart to a car in weeks? I'm from Caracas, Venezuela, and here, you really have to know how to drive to get a license. If you don't pass the written test you don't even get to take the practical one. Dissapointing to hear. Don't blame the crazy illegals, blame the guys who get them the license.

Got your license WHERE?

by photoxprt - 12/4/05 2:14 PM In reply to: How do they get a license? by Nelsoneas

Hello to Caracas....went to school with a lot of you guys.
An old joke here......get your license at K-Mart? Wal-Mart? 7 -11? (Stupid store of your choice/ location).
But yiu're right. We have a lot of illegals getting caught driving with NO license; and the ones that DO have them; I'm asking....HOW?!!? If they can't read the book, how can they POSSIBLY get a license?!
But somehow they do.....ah, well.
I "failed" my first driving test because the examiner wasn't paying attention to me. He said he didn't hear the turn signal clicker making its' 'clicks', Too bad...come back in thirty days. Nowadays, kids don't even have to know how to 'parallel park'.

Cell Phones

by larryjj - 8/2/05 2:32 PM In reply to: What is the biggest threat to safe driving? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Ask any pilot of an aircraft and he or she will tell you the number one job of the pilot is to ''fly the airplane''. Student pilots are taught to ignore any and all cumunications when in a critical situation (like landing). Professional airline pilots with thousands of hours also adhere to this rule. The standard reply if busy is ''standby''. When driving an automoble, traffic is in front, in back, and on the sides. Driving in this situation is critical. Conversations, even hands free use the majority of the working mind and winds up taking priority from ''drive the car'' (the number one priority).

Cell phone are the biggest threat to safe driving

by rewop gorf - 8/2/05 2:36 PM In reply to: What is the biggest threat to safe driving? by Marc Bennett Moderator

The reason why cell phones are dangerous is simply because most owners are not using a simple tool as a hands free set when driving. I have been using one ever since hands free exist. I had two accidents in my life and both were caused by people using their cell and trying to drive at the same time.

I own a cell for the past 20 years and used it in the car only after I got a hands free otherwise I stoped on the side of the road to answer.

OLD people? The ones that created the driving rules YOU ignore?!?
Kiss my a**!!!

HERE is the FINAL answer to the question of bad drivers:
Everybody listening?
It ALL comes down to the idiots that are in a HURRY!
They think they are the most important people on the road.
They think they are the best drivers in the world. Better than Mario Andretti....or the race driver of your choice.
They zig, they zag....all to save some precious seconds....and are oblivious to the mayhem they are causing for all the other drivers who are desperately wanting THAT moron AWAY from them.
AND I'll bet my last dollar that they are on a cell phone, trying to read the report they didn't resd the night before.....or any combination thereof.
And for Gods sake....stop RUBBERNECKING!!!
Rubberneckers are responsible for 98% of ALL hiway slowdowns, stop 'n go traffic etc.
We pay a sh*tload of money for our vehicles, and do NOT want them or our precious selves wind up in a body shop....at best.
So take your self-righteous butt somewhere and learn to DRIVE.....and correctly!
Because the next driver that tries to zoom into a space I am trying to maintain a safe distance from the person in front of me.....I'm gonna FLOOR it, and guess who'll get the ticket? (Hint....not me!)

States issuing drivers licenses today is merely a formality rather than an accomplishment. Take a written test that any moron can pass, especially after taking a dozen times. Then take a road test to prove to some official looking, bored out of his mind examiner that you can move a car without hitting something. Do that and you are licensed to wreak havoc all across the USA. That is the real reason for so many bad drivers on the road.

Also, automotive technology has been able to “dumb down” driving therefore the skills needed to safely operate a vehicle have generally diminished. The trend today is to make cars idiot-proof. Which reminds me of a quote about computer programming from Rich Cook:

“Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.”

Bad Drivers

by caadams49 - 8/2/05 2:53 PM In reply to: What is the biggest threat to safe driving? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Doesn't the choice Bad Drivers cover all the rest. A good driver wouldn't mess with the rest. So I guess that makes most of us bad drivers.

Biggest threat? Kids

by Laurenksmith - 8/2/05 2:55 PM In reply to: What is the biggest threat to safe driving? by Marc Bennett Moderator

My last 2 close calls all involved kids (new or not yet licensed) backing out of driveways. In one case I was able to stop before they made it all the way into the street and the next one I was able to speed up before they hit me! Cell phone drivers, weave or go very very slow and you can go around them (or honk if you can't) and they will pay attention, however briefly, to what they should be doing. Kids haven't yet learned that while they may think they are fine or have plenty or room or time, they don't know what they've caused down the road because someone had to slam their brakes on to avoid the misjudgement. Experience is a great teacher and maybe we all have something to learn from the next "bad" driver we met.

Bad Drivers

by posm - 8/2/05 2:59 PM In reply to: What is the biggest threat to safe driving? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Let's see:
1. A bad drive will talk on a phone in extremely heavy traffic
2. A bad driver will see a radio station or a CD (DVD if kids are in the car).
3. A bad driver is usually the first to throw a fit because another drive pulled infront of him/her or tries to cut a driver off to keep them from getting in front even if it was to get off at the next exit.

So the problems on the road are usually cause by bad drivers.
