Safari & watching Yahoo! Launch Videos

by kevinyavorcik - 7/19/05 3:16 PM

Anyone else had this problem? I'm trying to watch videos with Safari 2.0 and I receive an error message when trying to watch the videos at http://launch.yahoo.com ... It says I need netscape 4.7x+ ... to which I highly doubt I Need it. does anybody know a way around this? perhaps a plugin? or even an apple script hack?

Check out the discussion thread

"QT 7...get rid of this plugin?"

about half way down the "Mac applications & utilities forum
" page as I write this.

Long story short - I use FireFox for viewing online video.

Luck to ya.

It's not just you that it happens to. I tried to access the site using a different User Agent (pretending to be Netscape) but it still got me. I don't know of any work around.
Others might

I just saw P's message and tried FireFox and it would not work either. At first I thought it was the pop up blocker but it still wouldn't load after the POB was turned off.

I thought FireFox was the answer...it worked great watching streaming video of Live 8 on AOL's streaming site a few weeks ago.

All I can say is maby Yahoo has a deal with Netscape and won't let other mac browsers work, even netscape clones like mozilla and firefox.

Has anyone tried this with a win machine ? I wonder if it's a gimmick.

Doesn't work, won't work

by rheend - 8/1/05 9:31 AM In reply to: Safari & watching Yahoo! Launch Videos by kevinyavorcik

I have complained to Yahoo! about this several times. It's not just the Launch videos/music but almost all video on Yahoo. They say video on Mac is not supported (although some of the news videos DO work).

Unfortunately, their responses are scripted and often don't address my questions. After two rounds of polite conversation, they simply stop answering.

It's simply silly, because I don't see a real technical reason why Macs are not supported. It's not like they're using DRM (not supported by Mac Winodws Media Player).

Honestly, I don't see Yahoo rushing to fix this problem anytime soon.

Install RealPlayer plugin, WindowsMedia Player for Mac and be sure you have QT too... it seems that Yahoo need 3 plugins in order to configure the settings for de videos.
