A) Hourly
B) Daily
C) Weekly
D) Monthly
E) Yearly
F) None of the above or never
The answer should always be F) because if you can't say anything good about someone or thier opinions then don't say anything at all!

How offen should techies be able to put down Molly's opinion

by elmarioc - 4/2/05 2:29 PM In reply to: How offen should techies be able to put down Molly's opinion by 190398496562983893390286805609

WRONG, Mr. "Mollylover".

The answer should be:

G) Every time she comes up with an asinine article (read that as "opinion"). Which happens to be the case in about 7 out of 10 times C/NET gives us this kind of biased "opinion". Case-in-point: Her infamous "IE7: So long Firefox".

As far as your "if you can't say anything good about someone or thier opinions then don't say anything at all!" goes, it shows a narrow-minded approach to the real world. It seems like you sheepishly follow and accept whatever Molly says. Proof of this is in your previous postings...

(1)
"I AGREE 100%!

I also wish that more regular everyday home internet users would reply to the CNET community lounges and not just those techies! It seems that those techies should branch off and form thier own BLOG! I myself welcome Molly's opinion and look forward to reading about her opinions as well as all the other writers in the CNET community! Keep up the good work Molly!"

(2)
"How offen should Molly do a column on CNET!

It seems to me that she's entitled to express her opinion as offen as she likes! Just because alot of CNET users don't share her opinion on many subjects is no reason to put her down because she likes or doesn't like any subject matter that has anything to do with Internet Explorer, Netscape, Foxfire, or other web browsers! Everyone out there has a right to thier opinion on anything of interest, but please don't rant about your web browser or your software program or other web based program being so much better then what she states as her opinion! Her opinion is just as valuable as anyone elses! You all sound like a bunch of spoiled little kids! I say if you can't say a good thing about a subject or person then don't say anything at all! I hold no favorites and treat everyone equally! Remember the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you'd like others to do unto you!"

Wrong Mr Mollyhater or elmarioc

I don't love Molly, but I don't hate her either! I feel she can say whatever she wants in her articles! I may or may not always agree with her, but I keep my opinions to myself! I think everyone should keep thier remarks to themselves too, unless it's a kind remark! The real world is much to full of hate and bad blood to have anyone be putting down anyone for what they say or print! If anyone doesn't agree with what someone says in print, then they should not read what that person has printed! No one made you read it! I say let Molly print whatever she wants! This also goes for any other authors who have printed articles in any of the internet newsletters we receive by e-mail from CNET! You are still entitled to your opinion, just don't put someone down in the process! God says love one another! You should try it and let go of the hate!

How moronic can you be??

You said: " I don't love Molly, but I don't hate her either! I feel she can say whatever she wants in her articles! I may or may not always agree with her, but I keep my opinions to myself! I think everyone should keep thier remarks to themselves too, unless it's a kind remark"

1. What do you think ... "I keep my opinions to myself..." means?. You are SO FAR from living up to your own statement. If you don't know what I mean, ask someone to explained this to you.

2. You are so dense ("I keep my opinions to myself!), you are not capable of seeing the contradiction here.

3. And you are so biased ("... unless it's a kind remark"), you cannot understand that a critical opinion IS NOT a sign of HATE.

4. You sound like a religious freak... "The real world is much to full of hate and bad blood to have anyone be putting down anyone for what they say or print! If anyone doesn't agree with what someone says in print, then they should not read what that person has printed"

I don't think you'll be able to explain it, but... how can a person determine whether he or she agrees with the contents of an article, UNLESS that person reads it?.

I really pity you.

You're both wrong!

by rmbenj - 6/27/05 11:18 AM In reply to: Wrong Mr Mollyhater or elmarioc by elmarioc

This is supposed to be a discussion forum, not a love or hate forum. If you disagree with someone's statements, it's your privilege to give logical, dispassionate reasons why. It's annoying and disgusting to read a comment that calls a person stupid or a miserable blah-blah-blah for having an opinion that differs from the (obviously closed-minded) commenter's. On the other hand, if you keep your opinions to yourself out of respect for the columnist, you're not helping the forum.

logic AND emotion

by jion - 8/1/05 6:34 AM In reply to: You're both wrong! by rmbenj

Well reasoned and well received criticism makes the world go round. I agree with the logical and dispassionate analysis part of your statement. However we are beings of emotion as well. The key I think is to clearly separate your logical argument from your emotions when writing a good argument.

However I would go so far to say that you should include separately from the logical argument your personal emotional reasons or emotional investment in the subject. In other words why you hold a particular opinion or point of view. But remember the logical analysis should be emotion free so that you see the facts and truth and are not blinded by your emotional investment.

(F) but not never

Everyone has an opinion,as per Molly.Just as long as it's constuctive.I've seen some posts that just
complain without reasoning or content. If someone doesn't like an article just don't post "I'm unsubscribing" give why.I'm sure we could use some other points of view and expertese. I'm a home user and purchase products and services quite frequently,
usually within my budget,I like to write reviews on them also.So other imput is helpful.

I agree to a point JBengell!

I'm a homeuser too and think everyone should be entitled to thier opinion! However puting someone down in the process is a NO-No! Just putting down Molly or anyone for what they print or say and then unsubscribing from a newsletter shows just how narrow minded some techies really are! You all live in your own little world! It's as though some techies are saying: "Agree with our point of view or we won't like you!" How sad! I, like you, welcome constructive criticism from anyone, but putting someone down for what they say or print in an article is just plain wrong! I wish all those Techies would go off and form thier own little BLOG!

Cnet's not for techines anymore.

by ctk76 - 4/17/05 10:19 PM In reply to: How offen should techies be able to put down Molly's opinion by 190398496562983893390286805609

Business strategies change, and I guess I could understand if cnet is trying to cater more for the non-technical crowd, although a technical site for non-technical people does sound like an oxymoron. I believe technies ought to find different sites to visit. There are many other fine sites that deal with technologies, and that are catered for the enthusiasts. AnandTech, TomsHardware, ArsTechnica, and even ZD's own ExtremeTech are better suited for the techies. Consider Ms. Wood like someone who comes out your local TV news and gives you a five-minute rundowns to average people who are clueless about technology. The fact that average people need to learn about technology is a good thing. There are also some 14-year old budding future techies who can still learn a thing or two from her. There's no need to bash Ms. Wood for catering to those crowd.

RE: I Agree Mostly

Just because your a Techine, doesn't give you the right to put down someone who's not! You have the right to put each other down or up because you are all equals among yourselves! Molly just isn't on the same team as you techies! Kind of like comparing apples with oranges. Both equally fruit, but not from the same tree! It's like a lawyer telling a doctor how to do his job! Now the only statement I disagree with from ctk76 is that the CNET community is strictly for Techines! I feel this web site is for anyone who needs help understanding all the changes being made in our technologically expanding universe! Anyone is welcome providing they don't keep putting down others who disagree with them! Lets make this a kinder Forum!

Professionals Vs. Home Users A Growing Struggle.

by purplevallyworld - 6/13/05 10:39 PM In reply to: RE: I Agree Mostly by 190398496562983893390286805609

And in this post you make the whole point, Would you go to a doctor and tell him how to perform surgery on you, or would you bow to his expertise. Would you go to a lawer thinking you knew the law.

But, every person who sees their screen boot up thinks that they know what is best for a computer.

You see, Your not useing logic here. The reason that a tech is called a tech. Is becuase they actully know what they are talking about. But every home user wants to think that they know better.

I am not a tech, nor do I subscribe to the list in question. I just am someone who can actully see the stupidity of the situation at hand. Would you ask your wife, girlfriend, or just friend to perform a heart transplant on you. If you would, you need to question your own survival insticts.

The problem comes when every person with a computer suddenly feels that they have every right to try and tell the professionals how to do thier jobs.

mollys opinion

by halff - 6/29/05 3:43 AM In reply to: How offen should techies be able to put down Molly's opinion by 190398496562983893390286805609

The name says it all. It is just an opinion. The way she sees the situation at the time of writing, in her eyes. We may not all agree with the text, but that is our choice.
In saying that I am a parttime qualified techie and find sites like this real good to keep up with what is out there and what is going on. I work from home so am not in the mainstream tech circle. working mainly on home PC problems.
So some of the stuff with office situations, i.e. voice over and server problems are something that I would never touch normally, but this site gives me a idea of the working of it.
Keep up the good work
