The heart of free enterprise is that the guy (or gal) who makes the best mousetrap, has the best marketing and support, who reacts faster to the market fickleness is going to get PAID at the end of the day.
I 've been a Mac user for nearly 10 years now. Their products are fresh,
They have no fear of change, and EVERY FREAKING BODY IS CHASING THEM!
Iriver. Riovolt. Creative. All just pale COPIES!!:)
Apple is getting ready to release an iPod that will play MUSIC VIDEOS
right on the player's screen ! Think the iTunes store won't support it?
Tell me one other music player that does that NOW and I'll mail you my 20gb U2 !
And mass marketing? Apple has LESS THAN 6% OF THE TOTAL PC MARKET with 75% of the HD player market. As the competition heats up, we the consumers, will benefit from better features and price stabilty! Better product...higher sales!
I think you mentioned 'communism'' ( call Bill Gates!) Get real! What we've have here is some good 'ol comptetition! Apple sold 6.62 MILLION iPods last fiscal quarter..
a 616% increase over last year!
I'll give you 6.62 Miilion reasons why your reasoning is faulty ![]()
Hope to see a pair fo white earbuds hanging out of YOUR ears very soon!
Gwats> PS, try thinking DIFFERENT!
gwats look at the portable media players by archos that are linux based, you can make your own programs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ie. if it dosnt play music videos, which it should then you could make it do that, or anything else you want. Yes mac. did something different and was different, but they have not addapted in the ways that others did that came later. Communism was a joke....lol
P.S. you have to know that your factory earbuds suck.
enjoy
Most folks like their entertainment software 'ready to go. Linux apps are for a more serious type of computer user.
One of the main reasons I like Apple's approach to software and hardware is that you get an end product that is ready for the end user to put to work IMMEDIATELY! imovie. iDVD. iTunes. All ready for the end user(consumer) to get busy and be '' Creative''
If you "buy it, your'e going to demand that it work and is supported by the creator.
I've made Wedding DVDs, Birthday movies, Burned compilation CDs, stored Huged files as DVD-data discs, made films from 5 trips to Thailand
on Macintosh software that came with the PC. The iPod is just a natural
extension of what Steve Jobs call the Digital Hub.
Open the mind. Imagine the possibilities:)
Think about it...dude.
I hope Linux grows and is adapted worldwide. It is a stable OS that need time to grow and adapt. And it is not owned by bill Gates for the moment
Right now....follow the Apple.
lets agree to disagree
Sounds good to me! have a nice day!
Creative had MP3 players before Apple did, and they weren't even the first ones to make them. Also, not sure about MV but the Creative Zen Vision and the Omega Player, among other support video files as well as pictures/music...
ohh, and on another note, Macs aren't so great and their mouse design is an ergonomic disaster...i held an instant of hope that the new "Mighty Mouse" would have a better shape, but no...
you ask for a reason: i have tendonitis because i was too cheap to buy a replacement for the right-handed mouse Dell sent me (yes, i'm left handed) and i have one of the Microsoft Optical Wheelmice....which takes about an hour of constant use for my hand to start hurting. the Apple mice make my tendonitis flare up in five minutes, tops.....buy a new mouse, kinda hard when i'm at college, all my department uses are Macs and i don't have that option...
back on subject....you said you're a Mac user, which pretty much means you have no reason to look into most of the other MP3 players....as few if any are compatible with the Mac....in summary, iPods may rule if you're personally only using Macs, but there are better choices out there for the majority of the rest of us
Oooh, I see... so your a follower! You buy whatever looks nice, and whatever everyone else has. Thats a good mentality: ''I gotta buy it cuz everyones got one!'' Well, I like to be somewhat unique.
Both mp3 players have are hard drive based players. Ooh, the ipod has games! my cell phone has games. I dont need those cheesy-ass games intruding on my hard drive space (although i shouldnt worry too much, I have a 60 gb hard drive). Plus, I like my 6 band equalizer and superior audio quality pioneered by the industry leaders in audio tech, creative labs.
And if you're on a long overseas flight, why not get the mp3 player with the longer lasting (and not to mention removable) battery? I pity the fool who must constantly plug in their portable devices.
But whatever; if you like the product, then by all means, enjoy it. Apple has always been there for those simple minded folk who havent yet mastered the technicalities of a second mouse button, or a floppy disk drive, or mp3 players with more than one dedicated button, and who buy products with ''will it lok nice?'' and ''will i fit in if i use it?'' in mind rather than performance, functionability, quality, and value.
cheers
Rhabavvi
ps... i would never trust my sanity to a player with which i must spin my finger around and around in circles to find something to listen to.
Comes in 20 or 30 GB and has 35 hours of audio playback. This is the same test apple uses to test its iPods. And if that isn't enough battery life for you, then you can buy an external battery pack off eBay. You can use any 4 AA batteries(alkaline, NiMH, NiCD, etc.) as long as they add up close to 5V. It adds 30-40 hours of playback to your player. So you could have around 75 hours of audio playback. This is unheard of for a HDD player. When your AA batteries run out of juice, you could just recharge them if they're rechargeable, or you could put in 4 other AAs in. The battery packs run for around $20 on eBay.
y=40x+35
Say you buy a battery pack and 16 high quality rechargeable batteries. That's 195 hours of audio playback(128 kbps mp3, no human interference after selectign song, volume set at normal which is 20 out of 40, no sound effects on). That's the apple test for iPod. This is the perfect mp3 player for a hiker who camps for several days. 35 hours of battery out of the box and possibility to add more battery life.
i just purchased a iriver mp3 player recorder it is a good thing i have an open mind and am receptive to new technology...i am having a friend record 3 days of convention lectures for me...i am disabled and this way i can information without putting my friend through what could be a distracting chore...she will just tune in the recorder to fm broadcast and get the whold convention for me on 256mb voice space...KEEP YOUR MINDS OPEN
I might have considered the iRiver if I did not receive my iPod as a gift, but I'm quite satisfied with my iPod.
best mp3 player on the market is creative zen micro ,
I have both a Creative Jukebox 3 and a muvo TX FM. The jukebox is my workhorse as I use it in the bedroom connected to a home theater, through my main stereo system (until I can get the Sonos!), and in conjunction with an IRock FM modulator, outside or in the car. I love the removable batteries (it holds two, for a total of 24 hours of play time), and the line out vs. the headphone jack. I don't like Creative's software and opted to get a third party solution from Red Chair called Notmad. The Muvo is great as well. I use it strictly at the gym. I have the 512mb model which holds a long playlist (50-60 songs). The screen is tiny, but comes in handy. The radio is a bonus. Admittedly, I haven't used any of the online services or had any experience with Apple, or any one else's products, but all in all I'm very happy with Creative.
I love the creative MUVO TX 1GB with FM. I will be replacing it with the Creative MUVO N200 because of the line in feature.
For me, the disadvantage of the TX unit is the absence of line-in. The disadvantage of the N200 is the inability to remove the thumb drive.
I have a Muvo N200 - As seen on CNET!
I took my time deciding which MP3 player I was going to buy and now 2 weeks on I am delighted with my choice of the I-River H340 40Gb MP3 player with the colour screen.
For Drive Space, Display Screen, Clarity of Sound and ease of use it is all excellent. It has the ability to hold all of my 500+ CD's that I currently own. To my mind it is the best 'toy' I have bought in years.
If you don't have an MP3 Player then don't buy any other until you have at least looked at the I-River H340 40Gb MP3 player.
